Well guys, I bought the Canadian running lights from a guy off of the board. I installed them today, not only do they look good, but, they are actually bright and light up the road in front of the car. Very good buy. Also, it sets my car apart from the other 240 owners around here. Basically what I'm saying is, if you don't have them, get them. I'm extremely happy with them. I'll post pics tomorrow.

How much did you pay for them? Because PDM has them, but wants 100/pair.

He gave them to me for $85. I wish I could remember his memeber name, but I can't.

The bulbs are 1156. It all has to do with the housing. The bulbs are only 5v I believe. I just ordered some yellow PIAA bulbs for them. I'll take some pictures asap. Also, could you take a picture of them at dusk, and not level with them. That would be great.

Here are the pics guys, I can't wait for the PIAA's to get here.

those housings are not designed for high amounts of heat, the only real function behind them is that they can emit a fog-light like pattern, since its low and wide. the 1156 bulb uses about 20-25 watts or so (not 5). Bumping up the wattage will nuke the housings, they cannot take much heat at all and will warp.

Personally, I would rather save the current consumed by those lights and at the same time, keep the ducting that goes to the brakes.. this is why I sold the ones I had.

ps: Don sells them at a very reasonable price. These are OEM NISSAN CDM (Canadiam Domestic Market) hahahah.. and they are rather expensive, so 100 isnt bad.

I remembered reading on here that they couldn't handle a lot, does anyone know how much the PIAAs emit?

It's funny how you guys wanted them badly and how I wanted them off my car. :p

I wanted the grills because they look nicer on a white fb and also because chuki lights don't mix well with the DRL.

Anyways, i can get you some at my dealership for a bit less what pdm is asking for them if you're interested. :)

I thought DRLs go on without the driver having to turn on the parking lights (orange, the first notch before headlights). Arent they supposed to operate when you just stick the key in the ignition? No switches necessary.

By the way, is it illegal to drive with parking lights on in California?

In Canada, those SHOULD be on anytime the car is active. Anywhere else, they need to be custom wired.. and can be wired anyway you want them to be wired.

As for California, it is not illegal to drive with those on.. however, as soon as it gets dark -- headlights must be turned on, those are far from sufficient.

The PIAA 1156 bulbs shouldnt be any BETTER than a normal 1156 bulb. If anything, the PIAA will perform WORSE since it is blue-coated which does nothing other than filter the color (and at the same time, reduce light output). PIAA is a company focused on selling fancy shmancy colored bulbs and foglights, they arent a real lighting company like Osram, Hella, Sylvania, and Philips. Any company that manufactures OEM parts for manufactuers is bigtime. Now think about it, how many cars come factory with PIAA headlamps? Hmmmmm. ZERO, because PIAA doesnt make headlamps.

ps: Philips does not sell HID "kits" -- thats grey market retrofit rubbish. Philips simply manufactures the ballasts which are COMMONLY used in the billion of retrofit kits which used to be sold (and are now banned and strictly enforced).

Halo> It's funny how you guys wanted them badly and how I wanted them off my car.

hehe you're not the only one buddy! I sold mine after I found out the hard way that they couldnt handle much heat, and that they didnt have too useable of a lighting pattern. Amazing how useless those lights are after having the projectors. ;)

If you cannot drive with parking lights on during the day, what is the purpose of parking lights? Is there a real reason why it is illegal to drive with the parking lights on? Trivial I know, but I'm just curious.......

How about let's stay on topic guys. I like the lights. They can handle the heat that the 1156's put out, so what's the problem. I wanted them because they are rare in the US, makes my car stand out for something other than the SR.

So true. But I took mine out before doing the projector conversion. ;) Extra ducts for cooling is a must when your duct is filled with a FMIC.

To stay on topic, PDM sells them at a reasonable price. They are pretty expensive at the dealership. I got rid of mine for peanuts, nobody wanted them when I posted them up here.

I haven't had any cooling issues as of yet, but If it becomes an issue, I'll let you guys know. Any ideas for cooling, besides taking the lights out?

What is the angle of the light? Does it hit the ground just in front on the bumper?

Who said that is illegal? I already told you, its OKAY to drive with lights in the daytime.. that is OPTIONAL. In the day, you can drive with no lights, parking lamps, or even headlamps -- it makes NO difference because its already filled with sunlight. All I am saying, is that they are not sufficient to drive with at night.

I am not dissing your car or your lights, just incase you were wondering. All I said is that those lights are nothing out of the ordinary in terms of performance, they are just extra parking lamps if you ask me. When you fix up your car, you do it for your own satisfaction -- keep doing what makes you happy man. They should be fine for normal 1156 bulbs, but like I said.. they cannot handle anything HIGHER than 25W without needing further reinforcement.. the plastic is just too thin.

wong> What is the angle of the light? Does it hit the ground just in front on the bumper?

They are kinda like foglights, except not as bright and they have NO adjustments for vertical or horizontal alignment.

If you want performance, get a better headlight. If a foglight pattern is what you want, buy foglights.

Lighting is not the easiest thing to understand and setup, this is why I started my business.. if anyone needs advice and is looking to upgrade their lighting, e-mail me.

I see what you are saying man. I agree with what you are saying too. They are "kinda" fog lights. When you look at the car at night, they are bright, you can see them when you are sitting in the car. They light up the road in front, but not like a foglight, If I remember, I'll take some pictures tonight to better illustrate what I'm saying.

Possibly cutting the bumper, right in front of the intercooler. It wouldn't be visible unless you were looking for that. That way the air would hit the intercooler and go right up into the engine bay. Maybe the picture will help....
