J/K

I need more shots off this new Catwoman. I also need to find out who Huge Strange is. Robin Williams WTF?

It didn't blow me away like the Dark Knight did. Kind of skeptical about it.

Hmm.

Obviously fake trailer FTL.

Fan-made trailer, not official.

Robin Williams isn't listed on IMDB as Hugo Strange, and this is the first I've heard of him in the movie. The trailer contained scenes from his other movies. It's starts with a line from "Insomnia". Also, yes, they were using "Frankenstein" from "Death Race" with Jason Statham to portray Bane in this trailer.

This is the only picture of Bane released so far:

Kind of a cool trailer, I suppose, but not what you should base the film off of.

Bane is probably one of my favorite Batman villains. He's extremely intelligent and was even able to deduce Batman's true identity, hunt him down, and break his back.

Can't wait to see a real trailer.

Principle photography just began on the film last month so I don't expect to see any real footage till at least Q4 of this year.

For now I'm positive that the marketing will be limited to photos revealed through viral campaigns.

edit: fine fuck you guys. haha. thought everyone hates spoilers, but i guess not.

anyways Ra's Al Ghul is apprently making a comeback in The Dark Knight Rises. It's either going to be a flashback or maybe he didn't die in the train accident at the end of the first movie.

yes its still Liam Neeson

Josh Pence, the guy who played the twins in the facebook movie, is set to play a younger Ra's Al Ghul.
so there might be a flashback in the movie.
but Ra's Al Ghul is immortal, in the comics at least, so yeah i'm pretty sure he didnt die in that train scene.

I have high hopes for this movie, however the director will have a hard time topping the Dark Knight. We all know it was a terrific movie with tons of success, but it some of its success was attributed to Heath's death.

This time around Nolan will be under a lot of pressure.

not really, i think any actor could have pulled off the same joker routine. enough makeup and voice training can make anyone look and sound insane.

in a transition, i don't for see this movie being better than dark knight, but it may be a great addition to the franchise.

like back to the future, one and two were golden, but three was a little out there, but when combined, they make a great trilogy

You don't think that any of the actors have as much talent as Heath?

You also don't think that with everyone else's combined effort, that they won't be able to surpass TDK?

While I agree that Heath's performance was exemplary, he is but one man. The film will be greater than the sum of the parts.

If this movie has a pitfall it will be that stupid bitch. How she got cast I have no idea. Although, Nolan does seem to be really bad at casting the female leads. Katie Holmes, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway... All yuck. Batman would never be sad that Maggie Gyllenhaal died.

I think Anne Hathaway is pretty hot. Although If you're trying to say that her personality seems to be a poor match for Selina Kyle, I won't argue with you there.

Figured some people may like this. Anybody worried about what they say about Banes voice? This is one thing I have not been impressed with in this trilogy - sound. I think it has been off in both Begans and The Dark Knight. So many parts where I simply can't hear them talk but the sound effects are massively loud. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

Well, If you're vaguely familiar with the comic you know Bane certainly closed a chapter on Bruce Wayne's life, for sure. Lets just say, Bat's is probably gonna need somebody to fill in for him.

Commissioner Gordon's daughter was Bat-Girl in the comics. In the movies, she should be old enough to help out. In the movies, Gordon's son also had some cryptic and foreboding short scenes too. I don't see them donning the cowl in the movie though. I really don't see them introducing Azrael in the movie either. I wonder how they're gonna handle this.

so,. one of my buddies had a pretty crazy idea.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays John Blake, some super secret badass detective who wants to be worlds best...... or something.

now,. theres a Tim Drake, in the comic book series that fits that description to the tee. Obsessed with batman and robin because they held the 'best detective' cards i guess you could say.

He ended up being 'Red Robin' when robin died. Not a great fighter, but his other skills more than made up for it.

The only thing I'm not really that excited about is Bane himself, I just don't know what to expect from the villain, and I know I'm going to be measuring him up against the Joker and if he isn't as good, I won't think the movie is as good.

I dunno, man. Just based on that trailer, Bane seems to be one upping the Joker on mayhem. I mean, blowing up a football field beats blowing up an empty hospital because witnesses everywhere will see Bane's strike televised. On top of that, releasing all those criminals to overwork/soften up both Batman and law enforcement? Good idea.

Traditionally, Bane is every bit as criminally genius as Joker, except he's more focused. On top of that, he can actually fight. Heath was a phenomenal Joker but we all know that his death had a lot to do with that portrayal ascending to legendary status. I'm confident Tom Hardy is equal to the task.

Ever since Marion Cotillard was announced as a member of the cast for this upcoming Christopher Nolan directed sequel, fans have speculated that the actress will be playing Talia al Ghul, daughter of Ra's al Ghul. Even after it was revealed that she will be playing Wayne Enterprises executive Miranda Tate, these rumors continue to persist.

Whether Marion Cotillard is actually Talia al Ghul in disguise has yet to be determined. But it has now been confirmed that an 8-year-old version of this villainous character will be making an appearance in the film.

Bane is probably my favorite Batman villain.

-As smart/smarter than Batman
-Physically stronger, and broke Batman's back.

Even his story is awesome.

After Bruce refuses to be Ra's' chosen successor, Bane takes his place. Bane is basically what Bruce would have been if he'd stayed with Ra's.

This new series of batman movies looked kinda more serious to me, like, not as childish/cartoonish as the previous sagas from the 90's, n apperantly it was going alright until the joker. 1st one was good, then on the 2nd one it started being more of a typical batman movie, n now it just seems like we're back to the old batman, way too fictional.

did the marathon. first two were still great. third one, which i had lowered my expectations for... ugh. had the Occupy movement never happened, this movie would have been very different, and probably better. just like dark knight having a little segment where Morgan Freeman reluctantly advocates warrentless wire tapping, this just... ugh. but it wasn't just a little snippet, it was a solid hour of the movie. and then it leaves off with hints towards more movies, like they always do, and everybody's loving it because they don't want it to be over, nevermind what garbage we just sat through...
there were redeeming qualities, but this is definitely the least of the trilogy.

MadScientist
07-20-2012, 12:01 PM
Haven't seen it yet bet I expect it to be as long as the second movie at least.

My thoughts are simple...
The First Movie was very well done and Bale played the charicter perfectly... even has some Omage to Keaton.
The Second Movie was longer than expected and played out very well. Heath Ledge dominated the Joker and made Bale look like a sidewalk actor as he took the charicter way overboard.

So Excelent bad guys so far, so I do hope Bane is played to perfection, and Bale needs to drop the Snarly act and just be a badass.

My only question or charicters I am looking for are.... Where the fuck is Robin/Nighwing or Azrael in this???

Daniel.
07-20-2012, 12:05 PM
Nolan swore up and down that he would never do Robin.

John Blake looks like the perfect protege for Batman though.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but my prediction is that John Blake will be the new Batman after Wayne dies.

It's like how the League of Shadows lives on in every century. There also needs to be a Batman to foil them.

probably going to watch this movie this weekend.

the thing about bale and keaton is that neither actor seemed like the perfect batman to me. i think they need someone bigger. isn't bruce wayne like 6'4 and have a pretty muscular physique? i know comics exaggerate proportions (especially on females) but these guys are too small.

i enjoyed Nolan's take on batman, i just hope whoever makes the next batman movies cast a batman who is physically large and more consistent with the comics. maybe through in a harley quinn and robin. i think a robin could be done without tights and the red, yellow, and green colors by just making the costumes more like rocksteady's arkham city video game so it looks realistic. no rubber nipples like george clooney batman.

daftphunk
07-20-2012, 07:07 PM
I enjoyed this movie a lot.

The 2nd one was the best in my opinion, partly because of the entire story of it all. The corruption, the need for a hero that couldn't be Batman, etc. It was dark as hell.

The 3rd I really enjoyed though. Tom Hardy killed it as Bane. Bane had plenty of good lines/dialogue, which was nice. Maybe some plot holes, but the movie was 2.5 hours and had a lot to capture in that 'limited' time frame. I thought it did well.

Just saw it.....and survived. Everybody was jumpy in the movie theater. Anyways, I understand now why some critics didnt like it and gave it shitty reviews. The movie didnt flow as well as the first 2 Batman or like Inception. If the editing/cut was better, this could have easily been the best Batman ever, it had that potential.

I have a couple of gripes: If Nolan keeps saying he doesnt wanna make another Batman, why the fuck would you troll people by having a half assed open ended movie? Let it end with an actual ending. Or Shit, he could have ended it just like Inception, where people will analyze the ending and made a decision on what could have happened by not finishing the restaurant scene (you'll see what I'm talking about when you see it) the way it is. Just that last part out and it would have been a better ending and make people wonder on their own.

Lastly, you have this:

Yep, they're starting from scratch with Superman, directed by the guy who did Watchmen and 300. If it does well, they plan to also reboot Batman so they can tie the two in together and get either a Batman/Superman or Justice League project off the ground to compete with the Avengers.

Personally, I'm not very excited about Superman from the images I've seen already. I still hate his custome, even with the redesign.

saw this in imax and sitting on the ground floor below the stadium seats.

Everytime there was a digital effect, you could see it. It left a pixelated section of film. If you were way back, you'd never see it but up close, it looked cheap. Mostly present in the fight scenes like in front of the court house where it was really light.

I liked the movie. i think it was better than the first, I disliked the first. 2nd > 3rd > 1st. Movie flowed fairly well, it was SLIGHTLY rough in some areas but it did not bore like most modern movies. Definitely a really good movie when you compare it versus other modern movies.

I liked it, besides being super long and my butt numbing constantly, it was dope! I feel like the ending was rushed though which kinda dissapointed me since it was long as FUHH. Anne Hathaway as catwoman was better than I expected but i still didnt like her cause she was such a bitchhh -__- the best part imo is the "you should use your real name" i was like omdfjasdff and for the Bane critics, He was bigger than batman in the movie so dont trip.

This needs to be a review thread now, Id really like to talk about it D:

We can talk about it, just if you're gonna say something of a spoiler, post up "spoiler alert" and change the font to a white or gray color so its hard to read unless you highlight it.

Anyways, since they've been playing Batman Begins and Dark Knight in TV this whole weekend, I kinda noticed something. When Bruce Wayne/Batman was talking to Blake, didnt he say they've met before? In Batman Begins, Batman saw a kid on the fire escape before Scarecrow gassed him...maybe that was Blake?

Nope, that was Joffrey. Fucking little bitch.

P.S. The memory John Blake was referring to was when Bruce Wayne was exiting some party with girls on his arm and they made eye contact or something. They never actually met face to face.

Great movie but as mentioned could have used more time editing for better flow. Anne Hathaway pulled off Catwoman nicely. Would have liked to see Bane with his juice hookup get crazy big and start tanking shit but oh well already kinda knew that wasn't going to happen.

IMO Christopher Nolan should just keep rolling with this.... he does a great job with this trilogy and I absolutely HATE ALL recent superhero movies. The idea that Batman might team up with Superman for a Justice League series makes me sick. Never saw the Avengers for the same reason and probably never will.

New Superman suit looks retarded.

"spoiler alert"

The story was probably the weakest of the three, but as I mentioned, the other aspects were great. The bomb MacGuffin seemed to be ripped straight out of Spider-Man 2, and it felt like quite a disconnect from the mostly grounded main plot from TDK. It's no weirder than the microwave emitter, though, and it was handled better here than in BB.

I also didn't like most of the flashback scenes in the prison, and there are certainly more plot conveniences than in the other two. This seemed to be more a case of watching the brilliant character development of Bruce, and great acting mentioned above, and then having them be driven by the plot, instead of watching the plot. I liked the whole segment with the ruined Gotham, however. Great set design and visuals.

Just saw the movie and loved it. Tom Hardy was great as Bane, just wish sometimes his voice wasn't so muffled lol The ending was good, but it was a bit open to leave people wondering what will happen next. I do not want to see a Justice League movie, but anything can happen.

Did anyone understand the scar on Miranda's back?

Still better than 90% of the crap hollywood produces these days though.

Agreed.

What kind of plot holes did you guys find?

SPOILERS

I don't think all of these are necessarily plot holes but the four things that really stood out for me:

1. How Blake knows Bruce is batman. REALLY weak explanation.

2. How Bruce gets back to Gotham so fast after climbing out of the prison.

3. How Bane finds Wayne Corp's secret armory. Zero explanation at all. Especially after Fox made it very explicit the division was off the books so Dagget wouldn't be able to get at them when he tried to take over Wayne Corp.

4. Why did Talia till the last minute to flood the reactor? She had months to flood it if she was gonna blow the bomb no matter what.

EDIT

One more thing, I love how the bat plane is just chillin on the roof of some building for months and nobody finds it.

Spoiler alert...

1. Well yeah, the movie didn't explain that part very well but this is typical Christopher Nolan storytelling, leaving it up to interpretation. Blake has a great detective mind and puts things together, thus knowing where Gordon would end up from the sewer, figuring out that the 'police training exercise' was a trap, etc. He actually doesn't know for sure that Bruce is Batman in their first scene, but as an orphan himself, he can relate to Bruce and has done so ever since he was a child. He knows of 'putting on masks' and assumes that Bruce is also putting on a mask to face the world. Bruce neither confirms or denies Blake's allegations, leading him to believe that he is the Batman.

2. The bomb is set to explode 5 months after Bruce is in Prison. If we assume that the events taking place in the prison actually coincide with the ones in Gotham then there is about a month of time where Bruce can escape the pit. He stops watching when he sees the three special force officers being hanged, and at that time there was 23 days left or so. If he escaped, in relation to the Gotham city events, then he would have had around 5 days to return to Gotham City. Bruce Wayne is a powerful man who was born high up on the social ladder. He has millions of resources at his disposal. I think what most people assume is that he escaped prison with a couple days at most left to return to Gotham. Even so, he returns with about 12 hours or so left before the bomb is going to explode. If you have the resources, traveling the world doesn't take months.

3. The whole plan of cleansing Gotham in Ra's Al Ghuls' honor was Miranda/Natalia's plan. Being that she was also apart of the board of Wayne Enterprises, it would not have been difficult to know about Batman's weaponry. Sure, it would be out of Dagget's reach, but when you have Bane on your side, a lot of things become easily more attainable. The twist that Miranda Tate (or not really, if you read the comics) was the daughter that escaped the pits, and is the head of this operation explains a lot of things. Especially why the first truck they searched for the bomb was empty. She tracked the car and threw them off with a false signal, and even at that point nobody would have been suspicious of her.

4. It's as Bane has said. You only know true despair when you are given hope. The reactor is there to give them hope that they can actually save the city. Their plan is not full proof, but they believe that it is very good and they are betting on the odds that Bruce will never escape the pit and come save his city. This was her mistake, but again, it's apart of her character. Slow knife, despair/hope, etc. She could have even killed Bruce at the end had she not wanted him to suffer at the loss of his city.

5. The bat? Sure. Could be some rand building but it probably isn't. Could even be Wayne Enterprises. This one I could care less about.

What I don't understand is why does he "die" exactly? He was broke due to false trades he would be able to prove fraud and get his money back.

Does no one in Gotham find it odd after batman sacrifices himself to save the city Brucr also turns up dead now?

I don't see the purpose to making the world think you are dead.

daftphunk

Spoiler alert..

I think the biggest reason for his 'death' is easiest explained by Alfred: The city of Gotham doesn't need Batman, they need Bruce Wayne and his resources. There was nothing in Gotham for him. So he gave the city his resources, gave his home to the orphans, etc. And he left behind the life that he never really enjoyed in the first place, without tarnishing the name that his Father built. He was Bruce Wayne, billionaire playboy. That was the mask that he put on to face his world, so he left that behind with Selina Kyle where they both could start fresh.

Batman dies because he realizes that Bruce Wayne has limitations. There is only so much a person can take. When he goes to the dr you hear all of the problems that he has suffered.

I'm sure they would account the death of Bruce Wayne sometime during Banes revolution. Remember no one has seen Bruce wayne since before his fight with Bane.

I really doubt we'll see Nightwing movies. Nolan has said this is his last Batman movie. Nightwing isn't a big enough name to start his own franchise. I mean, MAYBE if the Superman movie is successfull and they start spinning off other movies like Marvel was done, but there's a lot of characters in line for movie treatment before we can get to Nightwing, like Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Arrow, Aquaman and they'd probably wanna redo Green Lantern too.

As for John Blake growing into Nightwing, maybe, I guess. I mean, he can very well run around telling criminals his real name... "I'm Robin". He'd get discovered ASAP. I think John Blake is a mashup combining Dick Grayson's maturity and Tim Drake's investigative skills.

As for just being negative about the movie in general, nah man... It just really was not up to the standard of the other two. Even the hyper conceptual Inception didn't make to take this many blind leaps of faith to explain away the giant, unexplained plot holes. I think Daftpunk was applied some good reasoning to them, but Nolan doesn't usually direct like that, IMO. Inception made you have to fill in the blanks because of its dreamlike nature. Dark Night Knight Rises makes your fill in the blanks because it wasn't directed as well, IMO.

i finally got to watch the movie yesterday after lagging/running errands last weekend. I wish i didn't read you guys talking about the movie being rushed edited to fit the less than 3 hr imax limit and had broken plot holes so i wouldn't have thought about it during the movie.

I still enjoyed it and think it is probably equal or slightly better than the first movie, but not as good as the second.

i think tom hardy did a great bane. i like how he was bigger, stronger, and smarter than batman. his voice and especially the way he talked made him seem intelligent rather than some meat head.

Anne Hathaway did a great catwoman too and made me look past the whole isn't Selena Kyle suppose to be a blond thing?. she seemed in character and talked like a cat.

the rest of the crew seemed perfectly casted too except I expected Talia Al Ghul to be WAYYY HOTTER according to the comics lol (but she wasn't even as hot as catwoman in this movie). scarecrow guy looked more like a guy than a girl in this movie so that was cool too and i wish raz al ghul had a bigger role than just flashbacks (i enjoy Liam Neeson).

SPOILER ALERT

Does no one in Gotham find it odd after batman sacrifices himself to save the city Brucr also turns up dead now?

i think the public assumed bruce wayne died during those Bane trials where the outcome was either death or being exiled (also death) since it was targeted toward gotham city's wealthy people.

kind of shocking to me since it pretty much happens in real life during human history where the prior government, wealthy, and educated are robbed and killed after they lose in war and are conquered while the rest of the population is converted.

i agree with that. definitely up to interpretation with all the blanks. maybe you guys can explain some things to me.

my questions and gripes are:

1. why was bruce wayne in a cane and had no cartilage at the joints in his knees and elbows? did his body wear down due to inactivity and sitting on his ass for 8 years?

2. how did bane become bane and why no venom? Nolan did the scarecrow toxic gas thing in the first movie and venom is basically just super steroids. it would still be realistic. it's not like asking Nolan to put something crazy and unrealistic in the movie like Clayface or Killer Croc.

3. Why is his real name robin? wasn't it suppose to be dick grayson, jason todd, or tim drake? i guess because the general public watching the movie would be clueless and wouldn't know robin's real name anyways but everyone knows of Robin?

4. Shitty ending to me but its possible bruce wayne ejected out way before the bomb exploded. i guess giving all his assets to the city and him faking his death is Nolan's way of saying this is the END of my batman story and leaves the city to Robin.

5. what really bothered me was the timing of everything. the bomb countdown and the time that gotham city was under lockdown seemed REALLY OFF and SKIPPY. the bomb countdown seem like it went from a few months to 23 hours to 20 mins too quickly (probably the editing issues you guys mentioned).

they should have at least edited the bomb countdown to have more realistic time. when they finally found the bomb on the truck it had like 20 mins. no way all that driving, gordon climbing onto the truck and putting the remote detonation scrambling thing on it only took 10 mins off.

DEFINITELY NO WAY for them to strap the bomb to batwing, batman farewell kiss to catwoman, and fly the bomb 6 miles from the city out of explosion range only took 2 mins. that kiss probably took like 30 seconds alone and then bats just casually walked towards the batwing with the timer counting down and take off probably takes another minute. haha

at first i was kind of questioning myself why the movie didn't seem true to its roots (comics), some of the unexplained plot holes, and why that weird ass ending. i came to realize that's just not how superhero movies are and comic books have multiple stories going on at once for a single character all the time. this was just Nolan telling his version of his story.

i didn't think about that fact too much in this movie, but she did go out pretty easily. i guess she was just a normal human with bad intentions in this movie rather than an assassin with extensive training like in the comics. still, i would expect her to have some skills if she was able to crawl out of that hole as a child.
