View Full Version : Cut springs for 95 240sx with AGX shocks

Ok, so I've been looking at "cut springs" thread but I cant seem to find the answer I'm looking for. Its mentioned over and over again that it's bad for handling. So with that said, there is no need to post anything about how the handling would decrease. Bottom line is that the information I need is this: On stock springs, how many coils does one have to cut to achieve 3" drop? Thanks fellas!

with the front struts having so few coils to begin with your going to make the car unsafe, the rear is no problem, take out 2.5 coils but the front only has like 4 to begin with and the spring tension is exponentially increased with each coil cut... Save your time, life ect... get a used set of coils or coil overs. Eibach sportlines will give a great stance and they are 200 all day long, dont be a retard, cutting coils is for honda owners....
The theory behind doing this comes from the american iron where you could purchase a moroso 13 coil and cut as much as you like off it, this still increases stiffness, but since its a captive coil with separate shock absorber NOT A STRUT this is much safer to do.
Also go read up on your AGX struts... they are worthless if your going that low, they bottom out and fail with eibachs @ 2 inch drop....
If your broke/poor find something else to do with your time, this idea is a bad use of your time and resources...

I'm running single coil cut Tein S-Tech on Tokico Blue shocks as a daily. There isn't really any performance downfall as far as i can tell, however i don't abuse my car. I simply cut the springs to even out the reverse-rake that i had, and for aesthetics. I'm not ridiculously low.
*If you are going to track your car, it's definitely not a good idea to modify your springs*
Also, i have aftermarket springs and shocks, which generally take a little more of a beating than the stock setup. If you're planning on cutting stock springs, plan on those shocks blowing out very quickly, which will lead to a major degradation in ride quality as well as safety.
Just my 2cents.

Don't do it, I cut my springs and it was all fine and dandy until my shocks blew. Then it was the most horrid experience driving the car. Save up for some coilovers if you want more than a 2" drop. Believe me, the world isn't holding it's breath waiting for your car to be low. You can wait a couple months until you save up enough for some coilovers.

Thanks for the info regarding the rear coils. Again, I am completely aware of the consequences so there should be no need to call anyone a retard whether it's towards me or those trying to seek info on this matter. From a resources stand point, I already have a good shock/springs combo, Sportlines to be specific. I need this info not because I am going to do it, It's for reference use. Believe me when I say this, since I have an 06 Z with Tein CO.

Depends on whether or not he managed to get his paws on some AGX SS. Those are designed for much shorter springs.
That said, if you want cheap low that's actually... good? Just hit up ground control. As the poster above said, there aren't that many coils on the stock front spring. That bastard is huge.

springs are so cheap. id rather buy a ghetto brand of springs than cut my stocks. i've seen a setup of lowering springs sell as cheap as $60. if you cant afford $60 for springs you shouldn't be modding a car.

I have Eibach Sportlines on my car its a 2.2" drop, its more than enough of a drop for my car.

I've had that setup(AGX/Sportlines) for 2 years, rides and handles like the day I put em on my S14. It's actually quite low since on a full tank, the strut only travels about an inch, judging it from a visual of the strut when the car is sitting. No signs of leaks what so ever. I usually drive my 14 way harder than my 06 Z not to mention that my 14 is my daily driver. Oh well maybe I found the best set of AGXs ever made since you claim that they are worthless.=)
