View Full Version : how to get steering wheel rewrapped
Is there any type of place that can rewrape a steering wheel with factory leather. The original leather on mine has worn off basically.

Its spelled RE-WRAP and any reputable interior shop should be able to do it but why waste your money? Just buy a Nardi. Its gonna cost you around the same...

Actually, I have been to several interior shops. No one does steering wheels it seems. I like to keep my car as stock as possible so I am not into aftermkt steering wheels plus the labor to take the factory one off would be very costly.

What?
Just go to junkyard and find a clean stock one.

I just replaced my stock s13 wheel with a Nardi Classic, guess how much it cost to pull the old one and install the new one? Nothing. You can rent steering wheel pullers for free from places like Oriley and Autozone.
And if youre looking for a replacement stock wheel for an s13 shoot me a pm, mine is mint.

I have a NR>G suede,. and priced out re-wrap's with a few different places,....and,...it'd honestly be cheaper to just buy a new NR>G wheel.
So unless i plan on learning me some martha stewart shit,.....thats the option

lol it literally takes maybe 10 minutes to pull a steering wheel off and throw another one on, and thats if your really fucking the dog.

definitely just find another one on here and DIY. It's really not that hard to remove a steering wheel...i've done it on my S14 twice.
disconnect battery
use torx to remove bolts on both sides
remove center airbag
remove bolt in the center (19mm IIRC)
pull/bang steering wheel like a mother fucker until it comes off
repeat in reverse order to re-install.
probably cost you around $50 bucks or so for the steering wheel. much better than paying a lot more for a re wrap.
I just assumed it would be hard because of what u might have to do to the airbag to get it off. well, i don't know anything about removing steering wheels. I know the new ones are very expensive.. So I guess I'll try looking for a jdm one but want the color to farily match. I definitely don't want a used one from a junk yard because the leather on those would probably be even worse.

I would like to suggest that perhaps action may be more effective than speculation.

I just posted in rare s-chassis parts thread as well. My steering wheel went from this...

to this.

I did a lot of research before I jumped on this. No one can do it just like OEM quality. Some shops can do pretty close, but not like OEM quality. Of course, this was cheaper than buying a brand new s13 leather steering wheel from Nissan and I made sure they use special clear coat for UV.

Don't remove the nut. Loosen the nut, but leave at the end of the thread. That way you won't hurt your back or neck when the steering wheel pops out. Use PB Blaster. Sometimes, it's extremely hard to remove steering wheel on some cars.

What he said. Except, you're not going to hurt your back or neck. You're just going to slap your face good with the steering wheel if you remove the bolt and pull on the tight/stuck steering wheel. I'm not sure how much it'll cost to re-wrap a wheel but if thats what you want because you feel you won't be able to change your wheel then there's a video on youtube from i think the ID is riceboy. They show how to remove an S14 steering wheel. Watch it a few times and you'll gain confidence you can do it. Won't take 10 minutes unless you've done this 50 times already. Realistically it's more like half hour or 45 minutes, 1 hour tops if you take your sweet time. Loosening the tight/stuck bolts and wheel are the time consuming part. Just make sure you have a long ratchet. It'll make things a whole lot easier. I got myself a Momo steering wheel cause they seemed to be the cheapest between it, Sparco and Nardi. I think the wheel i got was the Momo tuner cause it had a sporty look but still kept a stock look. I'm a rookie when it comes to working on cars. I've been learning as I go and have picked up several things and done quite a few things to my car on my own, this being one of them. If I can do it you can too.

I said no one can do it like OEM, but I'll take it back. I think this shop is able to re-wrap like OEM, but it'll be more than buying a new steering from dealership. Someone referred me to this shop when I was searching.

Well, I have never seen a rewrapped steering wheel that looks good. Check with reputed interior shop or just replace with the one you want.

Find a leather Z steering wheel. OEM-ish, leather, a little smaller (depending if you like that or not), and should fit no problem cus it's a Nissan wheel.
And as others said... if you're gonna pay to get your steering wheel replacement labor done by someone... sell your car.

your best bet is going to be to take it to a shop, there are shops that do this, you just have to look around.. bring the wheel with you when you goto ask so they know what your talking about. It will cost you more then a new after market steering wheel tho, last time I got quoted for my momo it was $150...
you could do it your self, if your handy with a needle..

Also like I said I dont want to fuck up my nismo wheel(way more than $150). So id like to know if anyone has done it and who to talk to/not talk to.
