that engine better have 0 miles if im going to spend all that money for it, and 125k for an sr20, it better have a skyline engine with AWD too

Not worth it at all for that price. No doubt it's clean but you can buy a brand new GTR for that lol

cant see how seller of the z can validate asking 125k if that black z sold for half that price.

yup for 60k on ebay

I might have been down if I was ballin, but then I saw the sr. I don't think I would pay 125 k for anything with an sr unless it has some historical significance. I mean for 30k you can get the weld s14 here in the states.
And I would be super down for that purple z at this years tokyo auto salon.
Or any rocky auto car, especially if it was a 432.

Also I don't think asking $125k for that color is working in his favor

I dont see why its that much. I can see if he's asking that much for all the body work done to the car. The chassis wasnt even in a bad condition, actually one of the cleaner stock Z body. For whats in it...I'd say $40k is pretty generous but $30k is more realistic.

06-01-2011, 01:08 AM
I meant to say the green stock bodied 240z sold for 60k. Cars are only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. in this case, it was 60k
Imarvin240
06-01-2011, 01:09 AM
i agree, its overpriced for what it is...60k was still WAY to much money...but hey, if this is what stuff sells for on the exotic forum, im selling my cars on there from now on hah

That Zs restoration is seriously badass. That is such an amazing build, but not worth $125,000 in my opinion. But if he can sell it for that much, props to him!

This thread is funny, I doubt there's many here who could pay 125k for ANY car. You gotta understand how the mind of a man who can easily pay 125k for a toy works. He doesn't care if it has an "SR" or an "RB", really he probably doesn't even know that much about the engines of nissans. When he sees something he wants that connects back to some memory in his childhood or makes him feel a certain way, smells a certain way, sounds a certain way, etc., THEN it becomes worth tremendously more than the sum total of the parts and hours put in.
Bottom line, people buy based on emotion and justify the purchase based on logic.

$60,000 is much more reasonable, I can justify that for the amount of work put into the restoration on this car...if I had the money of course LOL.

thats a really nice car
personally, i think the RB looks more at home and would probably be the better choice for that chassis. but can respect the guys reason for putting a smaller, lighter motor in there.
i think the car sold for a very reasonable price.

he still wasted 125K to build it which is still crazy. they sure rapped him on labor i guess

06-01-2011, 08:54 AM
while it is an extremely thorough and tastefully done build, i still can't see it justifying the price tag. something in the $50-60k range seems much more appropriate, especially considering what you could buy for $125k these days (i.e. r35 gtr)

06-01-2011, 08:56 AM
I'd pay $35k for it, tops. Probably about what it would cost to build from shell.
$125k is lunacy. I'd have a Maserati GranCabrio for that.

I can assure you that there is much more money into that car then what appears to be into it. i bet there is atleast $125k into the car between parts/labor/etc.
if you guys read/kept up with that build it was incredible. but i agree.... to me it's not "worth" it.

The place that built the car has actually gotten into trouble for cleaning up old parts and charging for new. They rape on prices too lol. I just don't see how this is worth more than an R35.

Its not worth $125K yet..unlike those fully restored Model-T's or w/e muscle i see on barrett-jackson auto auction on speed channel.
Some classic car sell for half a mill...
It just depends on the buyer. If he's a true enthusiast and has the money to throw away. Why not.

You're correct, usually their cars sell between $15K-45K and that one fetched a bit north of $50K.
And yes this car is super clean (you can eat off of it) but it's not worth the asking price...

He probably spent around $125,000 restoring it. But we all know the amount spent does not equal the amount worth. If I had the money to blow, I think $60,000 is a fair price considering all the work and time put into it.

40hrs/week for 4 years = 8,320 hours spent on this car. i hope to God he is off by a lot or he is charging for his time put into it. 8320x8.75(CA minimum wage) = 72k + what he probably put into it = $125,000
im glad he only got what he SHOULD have put into it to get it that way.

wow thats so crazy, like a month or 2 ago that exact green 240Z was at my old work, a luxury car transporter stopped by to pick up a GT-R to deliver to a customer and his next stop was to drop off that 240z so he pulled it out of the trailer and pulled the GTR in first, that thing is retarded nice in person, not 125K nice but still really nice

It is nice but you guys got to remember- if you have 125k to just drop I seriously doubt you care about that price tag. To a millionaire and up it is just a super cool car for a bit of money. Sort of like buying something overpriced from Tomei to us yes it is a little overpriced and a bit of money, but super nice and worth it.

That Rocky Auto s30 is so insane. I really wish they had put a whale tail or something like the BRE on the back instead of that wing.
I guess its about functionality.
And I think whale tails were an american thing..

Even at 60k its way overpriced. You could build that car for 30k just as clean. I seriously bet you could do it for cheaper if you have the connections. 125k was ludicrous and 60k is silly.
I should add just because someone is willing to pay for it does not mean its worth it. There are fools out there who have money and will spend it foolishly.

Unless you are getting a lot of your parts for free and doing all of the paint, body work etc. yourself, there is no way you are building that car for $30k. Have you ever built something of that caliber? Trust me, it's going to take more than $30k. Hell, I had $19k just in my SR motor, drivetrain, turbo setup, all of the goodies like AN fittings etc. And since I do all of my own work, there is no labor factored in, that was just parts. Worth $125k, hell no. Not even half that, but not going to happen for $30k.

i am so tired of hearing people mention ANY modern car that they can purchase in comparison to the $125k ASKING price.
new cars are fucking garbage. there is not one new car i would want, period. i dont want the smog, i dont want the maintenance, and i surely dont want a piece of shit fucking automatic R35 which requires maintenance up the asshole before "hitting the track." no thanks, i'll stick to older cars thank you very much. and the fact that this particular car requires no emissions is even better.
The place that built the car has actually gotten into trouble for cleaning up old parts and charging for new. They rape on prices too lol. I just don't see how this is worth more than an R35.
thats typically how it works. its called refurbished. spend the time to refurbish something and you will see how quickly your time adds up.
that cars clean no lie. but did anyone else see the jagged ass holes they cut in the frame for the rear coilovers/ looks like they used a plasma and just left it. 125k i think not.
yes, i agree and i saw that too. looked weird, and ever car has something that you can nit-pick. i didnt care for that, the wiring looked a bit iffy, and probably some more i can complain about but who cares... its still nice and still a very respectable looking car.
you can buy a godamn ZR1 for that kinda dough.
buy a <zr1, gtr, etc etc> and you still end up with a fucking STOCK CAR. this is a CUSTOM CAR. custom cars cant be compared evenly. smash a STOCK CAR and insurance gives you stock car pricing, go buy another. this is a CUSTOM CAR, smash it and its not exactly something that is easily replaceable. understand?
40hrs/week for 4 years = 8,320 hours spent on this car. i hope to God he is off by a lot or he is charging for his time put into it. 8320x8.75(CA minimum wage) = 72k + what he probably put into it = $125,000
im glad he only got what he SHOULD have put into it to get it that way.
if you're paying min wage to the people working on your car then chances are, your car will end up looking like most of the cars pictured here on zilvia. respectable craftsman and fabricators demand a price for their services and in my opinion, deserve no less. if someone tried to toss me 10-20 bucks an hour for my time, i'de fucking shit in their face and tell them to fuck off.
im all for paying people that deserve their pay after putting in a lot of hard work and effort. thats more than i can say for the majority of doctors and lawyers who rape society on the daily. however, i also dont commend fabricators for pretending that this is a personal build and then attempting to sell the car to make a quick buck. i am not saying that this guy did that, but you never know. it has a lot of personal touches but if it was me, if this car was personal like he claims it is - i would not sell this car and no price would justify selling.
Even at 60k its way overpriced. You could build that car for 30k just as clean. I seriously bet you could do it for cheaper if you have the connections. 125k was ludicrous and 60k is silly.
dave, there is no way you would ever build a car of this caliber for 30k. not even close.
no offense, but ive got 50k in receipts and im not even done.
Unless you are getting a lot of your parts for free and doing all of the paint, body work etc. yourself, there is no way you are building that car for $30k. Have you ever built something of that caliber? Trust me, it's going to take more than $30k. 60k seems reasonable, but again....... i dont judge shit like this by looking at a few or even a hundred photos. anyone with a fucking brain should make decisions as to what a cars value is by sitting down, reviewing all the records, receipts, etc.. then making judgement.
i've got a full excel spreadsheet with dates, suppliers, part numbers and prices. this is how any smart businessman or car enthusiast keeps track of their project. when it comes time to sell, the proof is in the pudding and of course, the finished product.
this guy's asking price was just that, an asking price. he got half of that, whoop dee doo.. did he make money? did he lose money? i dont care, thats his business. bottom line is, with everything there is an asking price. houses attempt to sell at their asking price, then people negotiate. apple comes out with a new product and cock-sucking idiots go in line and pay top dollar. a day or a week later and its worth a fraction of that. its business, strictly business. dont people remember the "guns n butter" quote from baby boy? people need to recognize.
