Not just rare, 'medium-rare' too.
that's pretty awful, but thank goodness it's from a state I have no desire of visiting.
now if this was in CA i would throw a fit.
lol, idiots will prob ban meat next.

I only eat crap well done...
Ironic they will ban "Rare burgers" but not cigarettes or booze. Just goes to show you, money talks.

I always order my burger (and steaks & salmon if possible) rare, or medium rare if I'm sharing.
unless it's a fast-food joint, I would never do otherwise.
life's not the same without a good hamburger.

I'm mad and I'm not gonna take it!
I'll show them, as an NC resident, I am never eating beef again!
... wait, I haven't had beef since 1999.
as you were

Eating any meat that has not been fully cooked is stupid, disgusting, and quite dangerous.
Although banning it is silly. People should be responsible for their own dumb decisions.

Anyone who eats raw meat is an idiot anyway. :)
Seconded. Medium is really as far as anyone needs to go with beef. Rare is stupid.
Banning it is stupider though. Shit, let people eat what they wanna eat.

Idk know what basis you nutrition experts are going with beef being not fully cooked is stupid and dangerous.
Ppl have been preparing steaks medium rare, rare, etc for ages.
Same deal with beef tartare, carpaccio, etc.
Sure there is the added risk of food poisoning.
Its just a risk assesment like everything else.

Yeah! So they can get sick and then demand the government to pay for their illness and cover their unemployment because of said illness.
Its a fine line, let people do as they please but they should not expect to be baled out of their stupidity.

As I said, its ironic that they want to control how you cook your meat because it MAY be dangerous... but smoking? Fuck, light one up for me.

Rare ground beef can be dodgy, because you don't know what the beef has touched in the grinding process.
Rare steak centers are fine, because being in the center, they haven't touched anything.
I like rare everything, although I tend to want my burgers medium. Rare steaks, tartare, sushi, raw Kobe beef, etc.

ultimately its always a gamble.
even a steak could be sliced and left on the counter.
im more concerned with the establishment than the preparation.
Id definetly feel more comfy with a rare (not raw) prepared burger from a good restaurant,
than say do a steak @ Denny's rare.
from the perspective of flavor, I could never understand the appeal of steak/burgers cooked well-done.
you're essentially removing whatever flavor & moisture is in the meat.
you might as well be chewing on card-board.

Medium rare good, I usually get medium well though.

co-signed...
id NEVER take a chance with any patty thats less than well done...now thats just stupid and asking for it...
as for steak/other cuts, fork it over as raw as it comes...theres nothing to be afraid of...build your digestive systems resiliency and get some worms already you nancies! i eat the rare steak raw from fuckin pho restaurants...never had a problem in 12+ years...
but a state banning rare is comical...what a hilarious age we live in now, eh? :drama:
I like my burgers rare, but it have to be fresh grounded beef not a patty. I've eat alot of raw meat as well, just not in the states. Im sure this will be overlooked. If I could eat at Andy's tommorrow, I'd take a med rare burger.

If you're talking steaks and some select items I agree completely.
BUT, if you're looking at AMERICAN bbq (the best there is imo), stews, some types of seafood, etc it's fine to cook the meat a bit more.

there's a lot of great gourment burgers avail these days, and the restaurants are usually flexible in how it's prepared.
most places i've been to recommend it 'medium rare', so you know they stand by their meat & preparation.
but yeah, all things equal it's more fun to cook yourself, if you have the time.

Wow, I'm not sure what that site was trying to prove, but they are waaaaaaay behind the curve.
Yes, I understand it's "Fox News", but it's true that this ban has been in place for almost 2 decades now.
North Carolina passed the food safety law in 1993, after a deadly E. coli outbreak linked to Jack in the Box restaurants killed four and sickened 700, including 171 who were hospitalized.

As you can see, they are currently considering going with the nationally recognized USDA standards.
Seriously, with everything else going on in the country, THIS is what gets people upset?

Your dumb. If you go to any sort of respectable restaurant they will cook your food thoroughly, but they will keep it rare. There is absolutely nothing wrong with eating rare steaks/pork/fish.

if you like your steak bloody, chances are you won't mind your burger likewise.
make your own if you're squeamish about food poisoning. grinding your own meats from select cuts (rib-eye, short-rib, hangar steak, etc) is what I do, and I never get sick from preparing my own burgers rare to medium rare.
Now I'm hungry for some Steak Tartare

Similar laws are in place in California and Colorado, where burgers can be cooked at a lower 145 degrees, if cooked for at least three minutes.

Yeah, unlike chicken or most shellfish, beef won't hurt you even when raw unless there's something wrong with it.
If you're buying your own good beef and grinding it yourself and it isn't getting contaminated, you can happily eat it absolutely raw. Same with a steak.
Speaking of raw, I just ordered an oyster knife and gloves online. Trying to teach myself to shuck oysters next week.

I KNEW I was in a steakhouse with my granddad at least once in my adult life and he had to pretty much TELL them how to cook his steak after they refused to cook it medium rare "because of the law"... and he has been dead since 2004.

what is law and what's enforced are entirely different.
I eat out more than Id care to admit.
having lived in CA forever, i can attest its seldom been an issue ordering a rare burger.
when places refuse, its usually due to company policy.
nobody ever says 'its the law'
