So for sometime now, I have had this annoying rattling noise going on, somewhere on my car. But I could never figure out what it was, at first it sounded as though it was a socket in the fenderwell. But today I got only the car just to check and I notice there was a block of some sort on the subframe. It was loose, it has rubber sticking out of it and it's connected to the subframe just to the side of the subframe mounting point. The mounting point closer to the middle of the car. Its a block thats cube shaped and weighs about 2lbs. Like I said it has rubber or a urethane compound coming out from the sides of it to connect it to its spot on the subframe. My question is, is this piece imperative or serve a real purpose? As mine had ripped from its rubber connection and was jus bouncing around in place.

I think it's supposed to absorb vibrations from the diff so that you don't feel them as much but who knows how well it works.

I hope that that is its only purpose, for my sake. Anyone else?

That's it. It's just a damper to take out harsh vibration. Part of what OEM does with NVH... Like the damper on the exhaust, the metal tab on firewall (S14), etc...
