So I picked up a fubared sr20 locally, someone put together this engine so horribly, they should be shot. They was RTV EVERYWHERE, they even tried to rtv a leaky headgasket cuz they put the gasket in wrong. The rocker arms are completely grooved and shot, and the mechanic that was previously working on the engine, said he heard top end noise and the lifters were bad. Well, I'm just crossing my fingers the block and head aren't warped beyond repair, and the crankshaft is still good...everything else will get replaced, so thats fine. I submerged the lifters in oil and plunged them till no air leaked out ( only took a few plunges) and they were solid and I couldnt depress them at all. This means they are in good shape right??

Bled. Sr20's have Hydraulic Lash Adjusters (HLA's), Hydraulic lifters need to be bled.... that is how you bleed them

It only takes a few 'Plunges" to get the air out. if the are stiff they should be fine
