Now, I feel I know my car pretty well. I feel I can corner pretty well, navigate traffic, shift, etc. As you may have heard me mention I grew up in a family based around racing, as my father has owned a high performance, restoration and basic repair shop for the past 35 years.

On Sunday....this 60 year old Man jumped behind the wheel of my 1997 S-14.

I got alot to friggin learn about driving.

My 60 year old father made my car perform better than I ever have in the year that I have owned it. He made it corner better. Drifted it. Made her run hard and fast, and she loved every minute of it. On one hand I was amazed at how aggresive and responsive the 240 can really be....but on the other hand, it was like seein your girlfriend makin out with another guy.

I guess I'm sayin there is always something to learn......and some things you never forget.

i love it when arrogance gets bitchslapped in the face by experience

not to say you're an arrogant person, because at least you now realize that "gee, i'm not the best driver in the world"

not to worry, i went through a similar experience at the track; 1st gen. miata passing me in my old Z32 on the straight at blackhawk farms

Oh, I am nowhere near arrogant, especially with my driving.  My father is very much my mentor. I just realized how much more I have to learn

The 240 really does seem to have some emotion, doesn't it? It has an undeniable character to it that really lets you form a bond with it when driving. This is exactly what I was trying to explain earlier. &nbsp; That rules though that you have such a talented mentor. &nbsp;Tap that resevoir of knowledge. &nbsp;Keep your 240 happy! &nbsp;=)

hehee j/k, but seriously, this is a great post, and here's why:

You're NEVER done learning.

The moment you think you know it all is the moment you should hang up the keys. &nbsp; There's ALWAYS someone better than you are <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Thanks for the responses. I gotta say, I am almost 30.....and it does kinda get to you, when your father whos is 32 years older than you say &quot;Lemme see your keys, lets go for a ride&quot; and you gotta be careful when the ride is over and you open the door, so your chin doesnt slam down on the pavement.

ahh yes, it reminds me of watching Paul Newman drive in races at Laguna Seca . The man was in his 40's at the time and he did not start racing till he was in his 40's but god could he drive. If he had started out in his 20's ####.
Then there was Danny Ongais or Danny on the gas which is what we always called him. He was one crazy IMSA driver. I remember watching him in second place at Sears Point he spins out of the caroussal winds up in 11th next time around the track hes back in second. I mean man that guy could just drive like a madman passing people like they were standing still.
Yes just when you think you have that corner mastered some smoker sneaks around through it and passes. My buddy did it to me once back in my 240Z days he totally caught me in my blind spot and blew by. I did not know what had happened till I saw him in front of me boy was i embarrased. Ah but we learn from these things we watch these guys and analyze there moves and lines we then go out and pratice them. Why?? Because thats how you learn to race and become a better driver. Pratice Pratice Pratice
