Please say a prayer for my local town Joplin and the thousands of people who've lost homes, businesses and the 90+ who've lost their lives in last nights F4+ tornado. It hit the center of town and ripped a 3/4 mile x 6 mile scar across the busiest roads and most densely populated area of this town including hospitals, schools and churches.

totally crazy. way too many tornadoes this year, hitting way too close to home.
....needless to say the situation in Joplin is terrible and i hope the death toll doesn't go higher.

Kind of want to drive there today, but that would make me a terrible person.
Hope you and your family are alright, Mr. Allen Burge.

Not if you're gonna give them a helping hand...

My prayers go out to you and your town. God Bless.

If you are in driving distance, not going to help would make you a terrible person. Try to make it over there and help out they need it.

^I don't know, can it be? It's your thoughts.

CNN says 116 dead now, and more are expected... That's a pretty shitty situation up there. :-/

Watching it as well. The footage from people who recorded during the tornado is scary.
Joplin was a nice town, I hope they will be able to recover from this tragedy.

There is hardly any cell reception right now, when I could get service I couldn't keep a call longer than 1-2 minutes. You can post on this Joplin, MO - Missing Persons & Survivors Page | Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Joplin-MO-Missing-Persons-Survivors-Page/228738860474393) if you are having trouble contacting friends/fam.

I went down today to help out a bit and took a couple of pics while I was there. Everyone is really coming together to help each other out.

Here's a link to my pics (http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150184762711736.306912.515231735&l=8eeeb3c175). I stopped and took a few pics, this is all within a few blocks so you can imagine how the rest of the city looks. I think we are going back this weekend to take needed items and help some more. If anyone is close enough to volunteer, they need it.

Me and a couple friends went today and took some basic stuff, like water. It was really crazy seeing something like this in person, it was a first for me. As others have said keep Joplin in your prayers, they could definitely use it.

Tornado sirens have been going off all day today. A few small ones touched down. What is with the weather lately?

Keeping you guys in our prayers for sure- pretty wild stuff. Even the Detroit area has had some pretty crazy flooding- for the area, anyway. My grandpa had a few 45+ year old Maple and Pine trees get uprooted in his yard on Monday night. Nothing like down in Joplin of course, but still pretty wild.

Me and a friend are heading up tomorrow to help my brother clean up his property, he lived through it safely thank God. I asked him what it was like when it hit, he said: It felt like someone shaking your head and screaming in your ears. He had even recorded a good bye message on his phone, he was convinced it was the end.

Those pictures are absolutely insane. We got hit with bad hail and wind up here in Illinois, with a few little funnel clouds popping up here and there. Even that was insane. The amount of time that it took for the weather to change was frightening.

That damage gives me the chills. Its crazy that you are completely defenseless in a situation like that. Definately thinking about all of the poeple affecting by the whole situation. Best of luck here in the near future.

Does he go by Red or Red Lion on forums? If so I know him too, haven't heard from him in a while.

It was crazy to see it all in person finally Friday, the damage is so wide spread and the power of the storm was just so humbling. My brothers house was fine, just debris all over everything but over 1-2 blocks it looks like a huge garden tiller went over the town, just total destruction. When he came out of his house after it hit he saw the debris in his yard and a tree down and thought that was basically it, pretty much all that had happened, little did he know how bad it was just a couple blocks over.

It's crazy to think that in the course of a minute or two so much can be destroyed which takes so long to rebuild. The little worlds we all live in which seem so solid and reliable (and important!) end up being so fragile and easy to upset.

It's been good seeing all the donations and help that's pouring in though, some donation centers actually can't even take any more! Walmart has pallet after pallet of supplies out in the lot for free to anyone who wants it, same for Sams and other stores. We actually had a flyer in our door (we're about 20 miles away from Joplin) from FEMA saying if we were affected in ANY way by the storm that we should go online and register for assistance at their site, didn't expect that.

Thanks for everyone's prayers and wishes!

Yes that's him. I am glad to hear how much support you guys are getting, I have no clue has to what I would do if I was faced with such a task. Hopefully everything will get back to normal before you can imagine.
