Is there a significant weight savings with carbon hoods and fiberglass fenders?
I know there would be some weight savings but has anyone actually weighed them vs. stock parts for an S13 Silvia?
I'm building a drag/street car and trying to make some choices on the front end right now.
Thanks

well look at it like this. you're going to be adding weight with a roll cage bigger tires and stronger drive train so starting with fiberglass is a great idea. no to cf, it's mostly for show or strength and where you're putting those parts don't require any strength adding. do those and fiberglass doors, trunk and lexan windows will save you quite a bit. if you do it all you could save up to 100lbs or so. so yes they do add up but 1 or 2 won't be significant. good luck sir. plus you need to do a build thread if you do this. we dont see many drag build threads.

CF Hoods you will probably save around 20lb, Fenders maybe 5-10lb with FRP.
Theres also other stuff you can change out to lighten your car like Rims, Flywheels, Driveshaft, Windows.. Also you can shave some metal out of certain parts of the chassis to loose that extra weight but i would recommend reinforcing the body with some stitch welds.

this isnt a hood but when I did my carbon hatch I saved 14lbs if I remember correctly. It got rid of the wiper but added the 3rd brake in the hatch.
I agree with the washer reservior weight thats the same that I got. Thats actually a nice list.

CF is lighter. But, most Wet layup carbon out there is only 1 layer of CF and the rest is fiberglass. So they are just Fiberglass with a GF cover.

id say get a cf hood... idk how much s13 hoods weigh, but s14 hoods are heavy as fuck.
and if ur baller enough, get a dry carbon hood. that will be lighter than shit.
