was wondering what you guys thought about rebuilding a ka24de vs buying a used kade24de and what would be more cost efficient.

Thanks

what are you using it for?

anything performance you want to rebuild. if you can get a used one with really low miles i suppose it would be ok to daily.

I just need a daily man bought this car and the motor blew in two weeks and did a compression test and had nothing in the first two cylinders and like 30 in the last two so I wasn't sure if itd be worth it to rebuild or just find a used motor to daily. but I just looked at the for sale forums and couldn't even find a ka to get.

rebuild... less junk laying around the garage... also it could be a learning experience.

sounds like it's SR20 time

rebuild motor = time, money and need to know what you're doing
used motor = take a gamble on a tired motor

the latter appears to be the road you need to be on

rebuild it. it will run better then swapping in another KA unless it's rebuilt.

I was never really fond of the idea of an SR20 swap until I was in this position myself and then my eyes were opened. It'll be a while before I really look at rebuilding a KA for turbo as a viable option again.

pull the motor tear it down yourself, have the long block rebuilt by a good shop if you dont feel confident doing it yourself, then put the rest of it back together (manifolds, oil pan, valve cover, hoses belts,) you will learn alot about your car and thats the best part.

rebuilding a KA is more worthwhile.
get an engine stand and have at it.

You also finish the project knowing more then when you started about the motor.

Rebuild. Then you -know- it's not going to quit in a year.

After owning two sr20's I'll admit they're great motors.

but its worth rebuilding a KA (the DE ) because you become smarter.

Depends on what you have money/time for. If you have money I'd definitely say go with the rebuild. Time is just to save on the costs and do a lot on your own. No money, no rebuild.
