rattling noise..

can anyone tell me wha this rattling noise is? i just replaced the exhaust manifold gaskets and i torqued down the bolts, but the rattling noise is still there, and its driving me crazy :wtf:

What did you find? Mines making the same noise, I have it narrowed down to either the timing chain guide or a stuck lifter.

try adding some lucas oil stabilizer, i added some and the noise calmed down, im 90% sure its the lifters, i havnt really fixed it yet im low on funds so ive just been keeping an eye on it until this friday when i replace em, ill let u know if the noise went away

I added the oil stabilizer already, but I think it sat too long before I bought it so the lifters are stuck, i'm going to do the aluminum timing chain guides anyways so I don't need to worry about later, probably going to put new lifters in too, let me know how yours turns out.

if u do ur guides first lmk if it still makes the noise or not.. when u first turn on ur car at cold start, does it rattle really bad for like 3sec then goes away?

No, it doesn't stop rattling, but it coming from the top end of the motor, I think I just lost a lifter. I'm a mechanic and have done numerous head gasket jobs and always clean the lifters, it's the exact same noise they make as they build up oil pressure. I'm 99% sure that's what it is, just wanted conformation. I just want to do the guides to prevent further damage later if they haven't been done yet, there is a recall for the guides because Nissan went with plastic guides instead of the aluminum replacements.

oh ok well yeah for me at cold start theres a big rattle for like 3sec, then its quite until operating temp well lmk how it goes and gl with it, im gonna do mine this friday
