View Full Version : Is the XXR 527 the widest 4 lug wheel commonly available?

Fred Allen Burge
05-16-2011, 08:14 PM
The new XXR 527 at 17x9.75" in 4lug seems to be the widest commonly available 4 lug wheel for less than $200 per.

Is there anything else out there I'm missing that's WIDER than this?

Thanks,
Fred

He specified 4-lug. 4-lug, as it applies to 240s, is 4x114.3. 4-lug, as it applies to Mustangs, is 4x108.

If he we talking about 5-lug wheels, then yes, you'd be correct.

I doubt that they are the widest, but I have the 17x9.75s with a 265/40/17 out back and they look quite nice. For a cheaper wheel, the width is quite nice.

It has probably been asked before, but why do they make them 9.75" and not 9.5" or 10", like every other wheel manufacturer on the planet?

XXR 527 Wheels were designed with extra wide wheel widths and precise offset pairings to allow for massive tire stretch fitment.

Found that on one of the sites that sells 527's.

It is probably a manufacturer mistake where they measured outside to outside of lip(aka 10inch), when they should have made them with the measurement inside to inside. costs too much to make another mold so they said fuxk it, sell it.

They did the weird sizes for "hellaflush" stretch or whatever they said in their description.
Pointless imo.

Someone probably just fucked up in the process of making them and they decided to go along with it.

The difference between a 9.75 and a 10" wheel is like 6~7mm.

That isn't going to do shit once you factor in how different brands widths vary.

If by "finer things" you mean more expensive brands of wheels I can easily afford the Works or a set of CCW's, it's not about what I can afford but rather what makes sense for this project. It's a 22 year old Nissan with pathetic resale value and zero rarity. I got it to put an LS1 in and drag race with the occasional trip to the store in the summer or local car show. For that I want some damn wide wheels in the back that are under $200, look decent, bolt on to my hubs and are easily replaced if bent.

Eagerly awaiting the 17x10 4 lug 526's. Sucks that they're gonna be on EVERY cheap bastards car eventually, though.

Hopefully more companies will follow suit with inexpensive 4 lug wheels in similar sizes. Maybe even some 18x9.5 or 18x10's too.

anyway, my problem with XXR/rota isn't that they're affordable (hey, it's cool that they're pricing shit within reach of the average 240 owner), but that they're straight knockoffs of other wheels -- support the companies that actually put time, money and effort into making cool shit. stop the copy lulz

You're making your 22 year old nissans pathetic resale value go down even more with the addition of those ugly ass wheels :D do it so I can laugh at you

Some foxbodys were 4x114.3. Along with older falons and such. That is why American racing, centerlines and so on have 4x114.3 avali.

What's the difference between a ricer and a zilvian?

A ricer has more money than taste, a zilvian has exponentially more time than money or taste.

You sure about all that? I hope not, because you are not entirely correct.
Early 6-banger Mustangs, Falcons, and Mavericks were 4x4.5, yes.
None of the fox body cars used 4x4.5 at all. The were all 4x4.25(108mm), save for the 5-lug models which were, obviously, 5x4.5(114.3mm).
Knowledge is power.

I went ahead and ordered a set, 17x9.75 for the fronts and rears, going with Nitto NT05R 275/40/17 drag radials out back and not sure what size yet but Nitto NT05 (street version) on the fronts. Planning on near zero camber rear and either pulled fenders or if necessary welded on steel flares..drag optimized setup not the usual Zilvia drift business.

Dude, do you have any idea how many car companies rip off each other? I saw a Camry the other day with stock Toyota rims that looked almost identical to CR-Kai's. I wish I would have taken a picture...
Aaaand one could make the argument that VS-KF's are rip offs of Cragar SS's from the 60's, or even Torque Thrusts. And lets not forget how the Chrysler 300 looks like a Phantom.
So lets come up with a new argument shall we?
