Im doing a compression check on my rb25det. its a series 1 FYI. I was reading about a wet compression and a dry compression. The wet I believe you add a little oil in the spark plug hole and do a reading. It should result in a higher compression since the oil causes a seal on the rings. This will tell you if your rings are bad, if I remember correctly. The dry then is a lower compression number then the wet.

Here is my question:

What should the numbers be for a wet compression test? During the wet test should the numbers be within 10psi like the dry?

What are the range for a dry compression check? I have read 135 is within limits but you really want the numbers to be within 10psi. Please remember I have a series 1, since I read the numbers are different from series 1 to series 2.

The wet compression check will, in most cases, be higher than the dry compression check. The LOWER the difference in readings between the dry and wet checks, the better the condition of the bores and rings.

Generally a healthy engine will be in the 150-160 range. It can be lower as long as they are within 10% of each other. Compression will change if you have cams, decked head and block etc...But 135 you should be perfectly fine.

What about a wet test? what is the range on that? or do you just look for a difference like you do in a dry test?

mainly you just look for the difference....if they are all close to each other then theres nothing to really worry about.

I have had some engines that while doing a wet test they go to the 170-185 range.
