diagnosing A/C troubles

Here is what is happening, when the key is turned to accessory's the air blows, a/c light comes on, and the light with little people.

But as soon as i start the car it stops blowing any air & a/c lite turns off and little people lites go out

eventually it will start blowing air. when it does that i hear the compressure kick on and its blowing cold.

what could be some issues as why no air blows whatsoever?

it quits blowing air when the engine is running. BUT it still blows air with just the key in

the lights on the climate control are only on with the key in and turn off when the engine is running
