hey... i'm new to the forum. i'm looking at a 95 se 5 speed, blue/green with a (weird but cool looking) light green interior. i'm currently drive a 97 200sx se-r, but my mom would be getting that. anyway... the 240 has 81,000 miles. from what i've read, these seem like pretty decent cars. how have the s14's stood up to the test of time??? should i expect to pay $$$ on repairs? i almost bought a 90 300zx, but i read how much it costs to keep one on the road. are the 240s the same?? also, the check engine light is on.... could that just be like a sensor or something?? the car seems to run fine. anyway... thanks

well, my car's chk engine light comes and goes, i have a 93 s13, i know for sure in Cali, if your chk engine light is on, they won't pass you for smog.
after i purchased my s13 i realized there are some common problems, such as the heat shield on the cat converter rattles (you man remove it), and there are complains about the 3rd gear, synco going bad or somthing. other than that, i can't think of any other common problems. i got my car @ 100k and i'm now @ 106k, it's driving fine

from what i was told the check engine light has a lot to do with different gasses and emissions going through your sensors mine was on O2 sensor that was bad... no problem... but that is the only thing that ive had to deal with on my 95 240sx so far.. i just bought little over a year ago.. this is my 2nd winter and its still going strong... so basically they are very strong engines if taken care of atleast halfway decently

I have a 95 S14 but base, not SE. My 240 is in the mid 6 digits and it still runs great <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> I really thrash my car too, so it seems to reason that they do stand the test of time. However on the bodywork side of things, I always thought the S14 panels were really really thin, any others agree with me?

Yea.. they are... if you are scubbing on a stain sometimes you can see the panels flex... kinda strange.... most cars do that, but it seems like the 240 is exceptionally flexable... I'll justify it to myself by saying it makes the care "lighter" hahaha..

my S13 is perrrrrrrrrfect and it has 252,000km (about 156,000 miles) the only thing that is changed is the usual... clutch, plugs, etc. and i had that heat shield problem just last month so i removed it.
