alright, there isn't too much information on engine swaps on 240's out there, so I thought that I would get some advice from you guys. I need to know the horsepower differences in the sr20det and the ka24det, as well as the price differences, applications, and anything else you think might me important to know. Thanks so much.

hehehe, THE Question <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>
There is no KA24DET, Nissan never turboed the KA. Custom KA turbo kits will fetch you anywhere from 200 to. . . 500 hp or so at the wheels <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>
The SR20DET red top (most common), is 205 hp at the crank (~170 at the wheels).
Either engine can be made badass, the KA has significantly more torque, the SR is quite a bit smoother. It's all personal preference, and nobody in their right mind is going to claim one engine is better than the other.
Building a turbo KA and swapping an SR are again, pretty close in price. SR engines run a bit over two grand, plus odds and ends, plus installation. Most places quote SR swaps to be in the nieghborhood of $4k. For that price, you can get a more powerful KA engine, but the internals on the KA will need to be replaced at a lower HP level than the SR. Pistons and rods are usually recommended when you go over 250 hp at the wheels.
IMHO, if you're looking to get 200 to 250 hp out of your car, I'd turbo the KA. It's torque makes it more fun as a daily driver, if you can put up with it's rough riding. What you need to do is find out all the information you can about both motors, and decide for yourself which will better suit what you want and what you will pay.

that is quite true. those sr vs ka topics 'are' rather hard to find on any given 240sx message board....

i think there were 2 or 3 HUGE threads based on this same question too. one of them also mentioned the CA18 as well. do a forum search.

Not sure about the SR swap pricing, but a good shop like Unstable Hybrids charges around 5000 for everything including labor. Another thing you gotta think about is if this is going to be going into your daily driver. Think about this, you're driving to work and all of a sudden something breaks on the DET, where are you gonna take it to fix? the local nissan dealership? either way you're going to be screwed out of a lot of $$$ for JDM parts. So my vote goes to the turbo KA, if you blow the engine up, you can still get another one around the US for a decent price.

No harm intended... but I'm closing this topic. Our server is slow enough as it is.

Again... no harm intended. Happy posting!
