I'm at work bored frickn prowling around the forums like an addict. I decided to see some of the opinions you guys have on my setup. Im in the process of piecing together a turbo kit for my car.

My list includes: sr T-25, sr stock injector (370 cc), s14 maf, fmic from an R32 with 2 1/2" piping (I plan on upgrading to the s15 T-28), MSD Boost Timing Master, Safc ||, not sure on which BOV I am going to choose yet, Full 3" exhaust (turbo back), Bottom mount Ebay manifold, and a walbro 255lph fuel pump.

I hope to produce, with this build, around 240 horsepower and maybe 230 torque. My only worry is how well my tuning setup is. I found some tuning guides for my safc || online in the ka-t website forums. I also think the MSD Boost Timing Master will be a great way to control my timing. However, I do not know how much timing I should be taking off for each pound of boost (I think around .5 for each lb) and if it has any corrolation with my a/f mixture or tune with the safc ||.

I think you'd be better off with a rom tuned ecu such as Enthalpy. With such a conservative setup there's no need to clutter it up with an safc and that msd thing. You can contact a rom tuning company, Tell them what you're running and bam, it's taken care of with a stock appearing unit. If you don't KNOW what you're doing don't make any attempt to tune the car yourself. Alot of people run those ecus with good results. You won't see the maximum performance out of your setup with one of those but you will have reliability. Visit Ka-t.org there's the answer to EVERY question you could think of about this subject. If you really wanna go the safc route, Find a shop and get it dyno tuned by a professional. Tuning is something you definitely don't want to skimp on.

With a T25, just run 370's, a N60, and a SAFC. Rule is, retard .5 timing for each pound of boost.

If you decide to upgrade to that S15 T28, get bigger injectors, a N62, and a rom tune. And if you do this, you can get rid of that MSD thing, as the tune will control timing for you.

If I was using a S15 T28 on my KA, my setup would be:

S15 T28
550CC Injectors
Z32 MAF (N62)
Walbro 255
Enthalpy/EFISpecialist tune
FMIC kit (isis kit or cxracing or something)

Oh, and you will produce 240WHP very very very easily with that S15 T28.

Thankyou for your guys' opinions. I did some research and found that the stock s14 maf is good for reading up to around 290hp, so why do you recommend the n60 maf? I do understand why you would want upgrade to the N62 with your T28 setup. Both of you talk about the BTM (Boost Timing Master) like you have no information on it. For example referring to it as "thing." Do either of you know anything about it? "Is there anyone who is using this ATM that can leave me some kind of feedback on it. I would appreciate that."
I am making my car turbo as a project and a learning experience, so learning how to tune my car and being more comfortable with my car is enjoyable for me. I like to know as much as possible, so I can rely on myself for diagnosing my car's issues. I would like to be the only one working on my car.
However, I do plan on taking my car to the dyno here at a local shop that specializes in 240s' for finer tuning with a wideband. Also, from what I was understanding from my research, is as long as I have control of my timing and my A/F mixture I am in good standing.

s14 ka-t safc setup

just finished a kat setup for my gf.
stock s14maf
safc apexi
370cc
t28 bb turbo
fmic
sard bov

settings

this will help most of you guys out to have a basemap. Every setup is different!!!
hotwire 5in 5 out
21% low throttle
45% high throttle
low map
27, 27, 27, 26,25,2524,24 afrs are reading high 13s and low 14s for cruising low throttle

high throttle map

25,25,24,22,20,18,1614

afrs are reading high 10s and low 11s boosting at 5psi .

Once she gets her nistune back, I will be able to get a bosot controller on and tune it for 8psi .

For now since we have no way to retard timming -.5degree retard per psi] we are running low boost with 91 octane.

The ka is low miles, and its pulling pretty nice !

I'm putting together a similar setup for my S13.

Original motor, 91 KA24DE with 140,xxx miles.
S14 T28(I think its BB, but I'm not positive.. how can I find out??)
Ebay bottom mount manifold.
SR 370cc injectors.
N60 MAF.
SR SMIC with stock BOV.
Walboro 255.
2.5" Down pipe and test pipe to stock exhaust.(only until I can pick up a Circuit Sports 3").
Some sort of ROM tune, haven't decided yet.

Should be a fun setup. I'm hoping for around 240hp when its all done.

Post a build thread once you start working on it!
