did anybody get this to work on they're SR

i've been running into a bunch of problems from the start
1) the fitting on the rack would leak no matter what i had to remove the copper washer so it would stop leaking wasted a whole bottle of fluid trying to fix this
2) the reservoir woulndt sit higher than the pump no matter what, had to move it to where the stock one was so it would at least be higher, now it's pretty close to hitting my GUTTED hood...
3) the fitting that holds the line from the tank to the pump wouldnt fit, modified it and it wouldn't let the hose go all the way in anyway...
4) now my system won't stop whinning and bubbling no matter how long i "bleed" it... my rack has been making tons of noises and so is my pump when everything worked PERFECT before the install...

i REALLY feel this was a waste of money... it might have ruined my whole system, none of the parts i got fit... really not happy with this... chase has been trying to help me out, customer service has been good but im still not happy with the product, more now that i think i might have to repair the pump and rack...

I had the same exact problems, the low pressure fitting to the pump didn't fit either and I did the exact same thing you did and got the same result, also a couple of the lines leaked including one at the rack, I tried tightening it and the fitting snapped off in the rack. Their customer is good and they sent new fittings but for a vehicle specific kit it definately wasn't worth it to me.

Should have just bought oem

The AN look clamp was a hit or miss item and was changed to a nice looking T-bolt clamp. The tolerances were too close. It worked on our KA and a local SR so we went with it, after a few calls and issues we eliminated it.

If ANY previous customer wants the T bolt clamp we will be happy to send you one as a replacement, free of charge.

A fitting snapping off and breaking is like a bolt breaking. It is a fitting overtightened. AN fittings do NOT need much torque on them at all. The fitting you broke was a 14mm or 16mm fitting, thats transmission bolt size. I am not ruling out a bad fitting however, related to machining flaw or improper curing. If I said there was an item/product out there in any industry that was completely flawless and free of issues we all know I'd be lying. I will elaborate on the tightening of AN fittings.

A torque wrench isn't usable, but -6AN has a rating of 12 ft lbs.

FLATS Method
Here are the steps for an excellent method of tighten- ing. Anyone can tell if the joint was tightened and how much.

1. Tighten the nut by hand until it bottoms the seats.

2. Using a marker, draw a line lengthwise on the nut and extend it onto the adapter.

3. Using a wrench, rotate the nut to tighten. Turn the nut a quarter turn.

Also NEVER use teflon tape on 37degree flare seal fittings (Only NPT fittings)

Hope this helps!

i want everyone to understand this, im not saying chasebays items are bad or badly made im just saying im having problems with MY install, and wanted to know if somebody else is having this problem or knows a solution

they're customer service has been great and have been constantly there to help me out... im going to try and bleed the system one more time this weekend and hopefully the pump and rack will stop making sounds and go back to before the install...

Same with me, the res is really well built and the lines seem to bee good. A simple hose clamp fixed the problem with the low pressure line to the pump. And chasebays customer service was good. After the fitting broke they sent me a new one no questions asked. Ill add something else to this once I get the unit reinstalled but during the frustration of the broke fitting I happened to misplace the low pressure fitting to the steering rack so once I figure that out ill be installing it again and hopefully it works.

Also I know this is a little off topic but hoping chasebays will chime in for it but where are you supposed to fill the resivoir up to?

im guessing up to... "where it doesn't overflow when it's hot" point

btw i removed the oring last nite and check if it was that causing the problem, but it only made the rack sound even louder... the fluid is still bubbling like it's boiling...

im gonna leave college this week and work on the car this weekened and see what happens... ill keep an update...

I'll snap a picture of the fluid level today.

Thanks guys!

You are able to use a torque wrench on lines if you have a set of crowsfoot wrenches. That is of course if your arm didnt come standard with a "torque wrench" in your elbow...

ok, here a update... after installing my spare parts from my fastback to my vert and succesfully bleeding the system and everything worked fine, i tried working on the chasebays kit again on my fastback... everytime i bleed it completly... when i started it the pump would be quiet and have power a few turns after that whinning and little power to the rack... after a lot of trial and error i decided to bleed the system with minimal fluid and remove all air i could, then put in a LOT of fluid and seal the system with the oring in the cap installed... i used it a little while before i left home today and the pump seemed to make little noise and operated normally...

i would recommend doing everything chasebays said earlier on how to bleed, cause that is the correct way i always do it and never had a problem, and have the reservoir almost full....

from what i could notice was that the fluid that comes from the rack makes the fluid bubble like it is boiling and doesnt let much fluid go to the pump... filled it up and just get minimal noise from the pump when the wheel is being fully turned

ill keep updating in case anything else happens

ok, week later update...

the system keeps making the loud noise like it doesn't have much fluid getting into the pump (i know cause it's the noise my vert used to make a few weeks ago before i swapped the parts from my fastback over to the vert), i've tried everything and still the "boiling" won't stop and i still think that's the reason the pump doesn't get the chance to get enough fluid... i contacted chase again today via email to see what else i can do...

UPDATE

i got a response from chasebays, they told me that what i've been saying about the fluid coming from the rack creating bubbles in the fluid is correct, they are gonna exchange me a updated version of the tank in a few weeks...

i'll try it out and give updates again on the progress of this...

i have to admit, besides being pissed of at the problem, im rather relaxed knowing chasebays has given EXCELLENT customer service and has been there to fix the problem as best they can...

My power steering is making the same noise. The pump doesn't sound like it's getting enough fluid and makes very loud noises when turning at slower speeds...so this is due to the type of tank they are currently using??? Does that mean that all of their old customers will get the new improved version of the tank that fixes the "sounds like it's not working" noise?

bejota108sx do you know what kind the "improved resevoir" is? would it just be the the kind that is not baffled and the input/output are both on bottom. Or would it be a completely new resevoir?

mine is fine i had to remove the cooler cuz it wouldnt stop leaking so there was 100bucks wasted the metal housing for the return line at the pump was to small so i took it off and put a hose clamp on it now it works fine only thing that leaks is my steering rack everything else is fine the fittings the reservoir and the lines

be careful using crowsfoot ends...because you effectively lengthening the wrench you are also creating more leverage than the wrench was designed for. There is a formula you need to use that involves measuring the extension you put on and plugging that into a formula. You will be tightening over the value you have set on the torque wrench itself if you just slap a crowsfoot on there...you have been warned!!!

Chase, I have an old style res w the baffle at the side, if you have gone w a new design(both lines @ bottom) is it safe to run the old style reservoir? Im not going to install just yet.

correct just like when you add an extension on torque wrenches you have to adjust for the new length. Yes please know how to use the torque wrench correctly before trying htanks for adding the warning totally forgot to put that in.

Almost pulled the trigger on this kit too... Damn, I guess I'll just stick with the stock assembly.

What specifically changed? It seems there were two problems (1. connection to the rack 2. reservoir return design and position)

Has Chase Bays started another thread about this? I saw their other one is locked.
