I have a sr20 redtop head, that i pulled from my recent spun bearing motor. And acquired a blacktop bottom end from an s14.
I cannot seem to find hard proof that the redtop head will bolt to it, i keep hearing about VVT and oil ports and whatnot, i just dont know what to make of it all. Seems everyone is doing the blacktop head to redtop block, but not the other way around, my essential question, Is. will this motor bolt up? What modifications do I have to do to make it bolt up. :mepoke::dead:

you just need to plug the VTC oil passage to the head

Sigh, no..
S13 redtops do not have VTC...the black top heads do...
To clerify, I do not have a black top head, I am not swapping a black top head onto a red top block, I'm doing the exact opposite, Im wanting to put a RED TOP head, onto a BLACK TOP bottom end.
My question is will this work?

DUH.
YES iT wIlL wOrK, Derrrrrrrr
Where do you think the VTC gets the oil from? PFM?
There is a passage in the BLOCK for the VTC, YoU NeEd To PlUg ThE PaSsAgE iN tHe BlOcK......
you just need to plug the VTC oil passage to the head
Notice I said "TO THE HEAD" not "IN THE HEAD" Readings fun

This has NEVER, EVER been covered before.
There is zero information on the internet about it.
Mostly kidding, but next time search.

There's always that one gentleman , who takes his time to tell someone to search.
If you'll refer to my initial post, it reads I couldn't find much proof on what I was doing. Indicating that I did some searching. And only found blacktop heads to redtop blocks, not the other way around. Though I appreciate the help Zilvia.net has to offer, and the expertise that comes along with this site, and its users, I do not however, care for the "herp derp serch derp"s.
Try not to take this too serious. Each forum has its own trolls that demand bridge tolls. Also, mostly kidding. Somewhat. <3

After looking at both blocks side by side, there seems to be a hole just like it on the other block, but less spaced out. By blocking the spaced out hole on the s14 block, will it change any happenings in the s13 head?
Also, It'll have to be JB welded instead of tapped, I cannot find a tap that small.

Any take on it? the gasket seems to overlap a little on the blacktop block. just plug up the hole no the block and its that simple? nothing will get starved of oil?
