Didn't find a Helmet thread, so maybe some peeps could post up some pics of current equipment. I'm in the market for a new helmet and need some recommendations.

are open face helmets legal if they meet the standards?
I used one once and it was much cooler and had less blind spots, less head turning. There is also the full face convertible type too.

Zamp is a good place to get helmets for cheap if your starting out... DOT sa2005 is what you can use.

Currently Im station in Germany and they really don't make you wear safety gear at the ring, but since I have been pretty religous about going there I need to be a little more dedicated and commit to a good helmet I will be able to use when I get back stateside. I've seen a lot of the kids here use bike helmets such as shoei & icon.

I believe anything SA2005 is what you need nowadays. Many places don't accept SA2000 anymore.
Then it's simply personal preference and how much you're able to afford.

For autocross, you're gonna be fine with a 'M' rated helmet, as opposed to 'SA'.
However, I would recommend an SA-rated one. Meant for automotive use, has a fire-resistant liner...and will take multiple impacts (as compared with M-rated, which is meant to take one big hit - Breaks the helmet, saves your noggin).
I have a Bell M3...it's comfy, but maybe a little heavy.
This is a deal: Bell Sport Mag Helmet - SafeRacer (http://www.saferacer.com/bell-sport-mag-helmet.html?productid=1857)

I run the Fulmer FMA1 Snell SA rated. Love it. Just need to find the smoke shield for it.

Not bad, I was looking at fulmer helmets. Any other companies I should be looking into / steering away from.

I have a couple Scorpion helmets, they're relatively cheap and decent quality. anything that meets standards will keep you safe, you're paying for lightness, features, style, and brand. Find something that fits most importantly. For example, I can't wear an Arai (I think, maybe it was Shoei) because they don't fit my head shape well. But they're certainly high quality.
