How the #### can you say nevermind ebc, I found metal masters?!?
ebc brake pads have won awards for bieng dust-free, and also claim to have the highest coefficient of drag. They claim .42, I think, compared to many others .25. Plus, they are race pads that dont need to be heated up.
I have owned endless pads, metal masters, and EBC's, and I currently own the EBC's. When their time comes, which is a long time from now, they look new and have 10,000 miles on them, I will DEFINATLY buy EBC's again.

This is me:
CARBOTECH PANTHER PLUS
A high torque brake compound delivering reliable and consistent performance over a very wide operating temperature range (150F to 1300F). Advanced compound matrix provides an excellent initial "bite", high coefficient of friction (0.54-0.56), and very progressive brake modulation and release characteristics. Extremely high fade resistance, very rotor friendly, excellent cold stopping power, and low noise when hot or cold. Primarily designed for track use, but can also be used with good results on the street.
- personally, I think they are a bit much for the streets and leave a lot to be desired in near-freezing temperatures. Dust isn't too bad and rotor wear is supposed to be less that Greens of Hawk Blues.
Here's the basics for EBC Greens:
This pad features a high Kevlar content formulation resulting in an ultra high performance road pad which is extremely kind to discs. With a friction co-efficient of around 0.46µ and high resistance to brake fade (550º C) this pad is a superb upgrade for high performance street cars, high speed freeway use and consecutive heavy braking.
Here's what I may get for street use over the summer:
CARBOTECH KELATED METALLIC GOLD 914
Similar qualities to our tried-and-true Kelated Metallic Green 913, but with a higher coefficient of friction of 0.50-0.52. Excellent braking performance, initial bite, modulation and release, and wear characteristics. Stronger initial bite than Green 913. Operating temperature range of 100F-850F.

I've never heard of the Carbotech pads before, but I do know some about EBC, MetalMasters, Porterfield, and Hawks. First off...Metal masters are shit...SLIGHTLY better than stock...Might as well save up and get a better pad if you really want to make a difference. I had Metal Masters with drilled rotors and SS lines and my friend with completely stock brakes except for a set of Porterfield Carbon/Kevlar R4S's could out brake me...And he bought these pads USED with 14k miles on them! They don't dust much and brake fade is gone. EBC I've heard don't dust much either, but I've heard aren't that great compared to Porterfields. Hawks are the best if you just want raw stopping power. Hawks dust like a mofo, but if you just want to bite the steering wheel and don't mind cleaning your wheels all the time, Hawks are the pad to get. My friend got a set of Hawk racing pads and a cheap set of vented rotors just to race one weekend on the track. The night we went out to break in his rotors and pads, whenever he would slam on the brakes, sparks would shower out from his wheels like a g'#### 4th of July sparkler. I wish we coulda got it on film, but maybe we'll give it a shot this year if he goes back to the BMW racing school. LOL

nismo - CarboTech is a newer company (www.carbotecheng.com) They sell a variety of pads and also manufacture their own compounds. In the East and South, they are now becoming the most popular brand w/ road racers.
I agree that MMs are slightly better than stock, but there is no comparing them to R4S's. The R4S is a track compound and the MM is for street. The Pfields will dust and eat rotors while the MMs are a nice basic upgrade w/o the side effects of a performance pad. In other words, he should have out braked you (I won't go into the lack of advantages of trick rotors and SS lines on the street). I've had Hawks (HP+) and would never go back - most of the hassles of a track pad, but they fade when pushed. BTW: my Panther+ pads also made quite a light display during bedding (me and a buddy installed the same pads on our cars and bedded on the same road... I had to call him while we were driving and we sounded like idiots: "Dude your pads are sparking..." "Dude YOUR pads are sparking... sweet."

R4S Porterfields ARE a street compound pad, hence the "S". The R4 Porterfields are the track compound pads. The R4S's don't really dust as much as you would think they would. I actually think they dust less than MMs. I'm going to be getting the R4S's here soon when I do my 300ZX brake upgrade...I'll make a photo documentary of the install too.

You laugh, but you've yet to feel the full braking POWER! As bad as I drive... going fast is always second to being able to stop (or maybe it's just that late braking is more fun).
nismo - oops... brain turned off... I don't know why I was thinking R4's = R4S's :duh: I know a couple autoxer that run that compound and really like it.

haha actually i have felt the full braking power - trips to thousands of car parts stores that never carry anything, remember?
Bah, I disagree. I have been using AXXIS pads for a loooooooong time now and am extremely content with them. When I push my Z brakes, people usually need to reseat their necks to their shoulders.

What online stores carry a good selection of pads?
I had some links, but can't seem to find them anymore.
