dam for real......hood scoop ain't working........looks like one of those things they sell at autozone. I'd let a mechanic you trust do a leak test on the the engine just in case, and check the turbo. If its all good.......ask him to take off the cost if he doesn't add in the "speakers" you could get a better box setup at bestbuy then that homemade one.

That scoop is off a early 300ZX, I could tell that thing anywhere :P
I wouldn't pay 6,500 for it, your buying someone elses project/problems. If you can get it for ~5k and fix whatever is gonna break, then you're set. Unless maybe the owner has a very detailed history on the car and has alot of records of what went on it and what has been done. Some owners you can tell when you meet them how they treated thier cars.

MR2's are great cars. They're super rare too to find in the turbo model. They can be super fast too. THe MR setup makes for great handling too....

Try to avoid cars like that with insane modification and no clear history. Your only asking for trouble.

hell as long as its not a FF honda, then go for it!! If it the MR2 doesn't come with a turbo, I would save up for the Jspec MR2 engine, that thing would get you into the low 13's. One of the customers my Mechanic did, was get a old 92 celica and swap in the MR2 engine, don't ask how he did, I'm still trying to figure that out, but he's running really low 13's, and thats on engine alone. So just take that into consideration on how much potential the engine has :).

and after that.......lets go take over the streets and track back from the hondas!!!!!!!!!! MUHAHAHA lol............

Ok, first off. @ $6500, it's not worth it. Actually, even at $4000 it's still not worth it. The engine bay is just messy, the turbo seems confusing. And the hood scoop... I would take it for $3000 just b/c it's a coupe tho. But that's just my opinion.

As for MR2, they were great cars no doubt. However, they are a b*tch to work on... As for great handling... It still comes down to the driver skill. I am not that great of a driver, but there's one thing that I really think MR2 drivers need to know. The car not forgiving. The short wheel base plus the MR setup cause the rear to come around too quick and too sudden. It's great if one can use that to their advantage. But it can mean disaster if one's caught up in it. BTW, this was on stock suspension. A aquitance of mine once said if the wheel base of the MR2 can be extened 1 ~ 2 more inches, then it would've been the best handling car of its time. But b/c the short wheel base, the MR2 is not a good car for beginners nor professional races. The former WILL make lots of driving mistakes, and the later may run into situations where an unforgiving car will creat chaos. A saturday/sunday open track event or auto cross will be perfect for the MR2. But other than that... I really wouldn't recommend it.

Yeah I kinda second that, but just about most FR cars from Japan has good handling, you just have to know your car and yourself to reach it. Not everyone knows the strengths and weakness of the car unless they get alot of seat time, took me a while to get use to my car cuz I drove nothing but FF's car before it. And I definitly don't wanna go back, once you get a rear wheel drive car, its really hard to want to switch back to a front wheel drive. Driving and racing skill can be improved on so can the suspension setup of the car, its just up to the driver.

Does anyone know if the handling of the 92-98 MR2's or the MR-S 00+ got better handling? My friend has a MR-S till the dumbass flipped it going like 120mph.....with me in it...but he never even know the potential of his car.

From what I know, the MR-S took away all the weakness of the MR2. Which means, as far as handling... It just might be the best of its class... maybe even comparative to that of the NSX. The wheel base lengthened from the previous model, stock ride height is relatively lower, and track seems to be wider also. I haven't driven one, but I've heard all good things about it. However, the only draw back is its powerplant not cranking enough power. I guess they need something to balance out the price tag.

Phoen_x_s14

yeah the power plant did suck on it, but since it was so light weight, he killed lots of cars when I was riding with him. From CLK's coupes the lil one not the AMG series lol, mustangs v6s, v8s, plenty honda's. Your right bout it being like a NXS, weight ratio is really low so it doesn't take much power for it to go. He kept up with 2 fixed MR2 turbos, and a t66'd Supra automatic on highway up untill I say 3-4 gear, not bad for a stock car and his phat ass lol. Dam I wanna see Top Secrets MR-S in action or the Apex-Super Autobacs, 300+ hp in a lightazz car woooooooo.... dam wish I could get my RB25 swap alrreadyyyyyyyy
