Ive been in the army for over 4 years now. I was and am not what I call patriotic. I did not join to save our country, or because Osama/Obama who the fuck ever blew up some buildings. I simply joined because I needed health care and a roof over my families head.

That being said, do you really think that we are getting the real story ? Do you really think that we could not find one person for almost 10 years ? Do you really think he was not left alive to fuel americans to forge on into afghanistan or iraq ? Do you really think that our gov. does not cover up things to keep our mindset a certian way ?

All of you need to start thinking for your self. Yeah lets celebrate one guy's death. Because there is not some osama jr. somewhere thats about to take one extremists place. If you didn't like the heat, perhaps you should take the time to gather your thoughts prior to opening your big trap.

You can not, in good faith, come out and admit that you had served the military due to your own selfish needs... go and serve the terms over in a foreign country unwillingly (from what you have typed about not being patriotic and not liking the government or agreeing with the war, im assuming you were assigned duty in the middle east unwillingly)... and then command the same respect as the people who actually fought for their country willingly. You didn't choose to make a sacrifice from the sounds of it. You had that decision made for you... because you were baited into the service with dreams of healthcare and a steady paycheck. You then justify your unwillingness by claiming that you are being unique by thinking for yourself.


If anything, your personal vendetta to get your message out about the 'truths' of the government is not original... at all. The hippy movement originated that attitude long before you and I were even a shine in our parents eyes. It's one thing to question the future of our nation and government... but its another thing to spout off conspiracy theories about leaving a known terrorist alive to fuel a war... and then demand respect from the people who actually signed up for the job.

Incorrect each state can set its on minimum wage based off of cost of living which a lot of states do but there is also a federal minimum wage and that is only at 4 dollars or close to it. So some places aren't as lucky and people that work there can barely make a living. I feal it as a good thing we got him but a lot of you guys seem to be just blindly following what the media tells you instead of thinking of the very likely possibility that the govt. Lies to you on a day to day basis, and I could really hope that he is dead doesn't matter to much to me if he died this week or five years ago, he has only been a reason for our govt to go into other countries and get our money, the country in whole has a lot more to worry about than that bastard or other countries wars we need to look at home for a change.

I joined knowing that I could be deployed at the drop of a hat. I was not forced to go and I understood that prior and after wards. My original contract is up, I chose to stay. But not for someone Else's war.

Now to say that the military does not creatively tell the truth(especially retention) or hand out pipe dreams... Than you are blind... I was not told that I would deploy for 24+ months in 3 years and be on my 3rd deployment before I hit 5years of service. I was not told about alot of things about the army and how it works. Career progression mainly... But I am not bitter about that. I am bitter about the relationship it ruined, and lack of time I get to see my family especially my daughter. Not to mention the current one that is being tested by my lack of time I get at home. But this is not about a personal grudge or feel of mistreatment.

We were at a live fire exercise and started a rather "large" wild fire. So bad that the state Governor got involved. The news later said it was due to a lightning strike. There was no damn lightning involved. They just did not want any bad press for the military.

Now I do not try to convince others of my beliefs or theories. It is for their selves to figure out what they wish to believe. But to not question what we are told or led to believe is idiotic.

Military pay sucks balls unless ur commissioned as a officer or been in 12+ yrs. Alot of young people join for education benefits or it's an easy way to escape hard times(initially). Alot of others including myself join cuz we wanted to do our part. Only a desperate person or a clown would join for money cuz it's not there.

I had a 15k signing bonus and I was making about 4k a month after taxes for this recent activation. I was an E5 with 5 years too...
They also had some guys making per diem ($50 bucks a day) and IIRC per diem in Gemany was even higher ($115 a day I think).
I am now considered a veteran in my state so I don't have to pay tuition.
On top of that I have an associates degree through the CCAF which is transferable to alot of colleges. Oh and I qualify for the Post 9/11 GI bill now.
I'm just another mechanic in the USAFR.

How many of you guys have been deployed in some FOB, where you get excited because you got a fucking portapottie instead of you digging a fucking hole on the ground? He has made sacrifices that some of us may never understand. Deployments will suck the living shit out of you and put more strain on your family than anything else. Army has the highest suicide and divorce rate for a reason. Who the hell ever said that you have to be patriotic to serve in the military? We may serve for many reasons, with no regards on what branch you may be in, but we all signed the same dotted line and we all took the same fucking Oath.

I remember when we, the US of fucking A, used to be tolerant and understanding of other's viewpoints, valid or not. I also remember respecting other's points of views because it was different than ours. And I also remember that the US is one giant mixing pot of different cultures with differing opinions on the same subject matter.

So what if someone enlists for their own reasons?

We arent calling him a commie or anything, and im not saying I plan on hunting him down to the end of time. But I am saying that I am not going to hold him on the high horse he wants to be on. Commanding respect for essentially having your own selfish reasons for joining is different.


I understand your position that people need to be tolerant. I'm being tolerant. If he wanted to do that, its his perogative and im not going to start an "anti pblesh" campaign.

I will however, refuse to (under my right) give him the respect he is commanding on grounds that I do not think it is right to lump himself in with people who actually signed up for the job for unselfish reasons.


While he may get a smidgen of respect, hes not getting all of it.

Back to the matter at hand, I think our government should produce or procure some kind of proof, aside from pictures of his corpse, to satiate the people. We really don't need to be parading around pictures of his corpse. We aren't monsters.

I think that is part of the issue... I also heard down a grapevine that the actual killing of OBL may have been execution style... that is, "on your knees no mercy" style killing.

If that is the case, releasing photography which evidences this may only infuriate supporters of his cause, further increasing his martyr image.
