View Full Version : Removing a Tranny Crossmember
Like the title says...how easy is it? if i take it out will the tranny fall? because i might be picking one up frmo a guy this weekend off his S14. How many and what size bolts are they holding the corssmember?
IIRC, S14 tranny crossmember fits on a s13 right? because i am completeing my 5 spd swap parts.

Support the tranny with a floor jack.
Tranny Crossmember is held on by like four bolts IIRC, either 14's or 17's.. its been awhile.
Anyway, really easy to pull off.
Good luck

Without a jack the Tranny will fall, but it will remain suspended because the engine will rest against the firewall
Just toss a jack under there and lift the tranny a tad to take the weight off of the member. Then its a peice of cake

Oh ya and Drift, now that I read your post. Its 6 bolts, kazuo you were close. There are the 4 main bolts that hold the crossmember to the frame, Those should be 17mm's. The other 2 hold your tranny mount to the tranny. Those should be 14's. It has been a few months since I have crawled under my car to mess with those but I will doubble check if ya need me to. Later.

4 of em connect it to the chassis. YES definately support the tranny with a jack. my KA almost murdered me by dropping the tranny on my head. piece of **** i always knew that were evil. the transmission dropped and then stopped falling about and inch above my face. so yes floor jack good and no its not hard to get off
