View Full Version : Whats A Good Motor To Swap???

I cant make up my mind on what motor I should drop into my s13... I basically want a good drifting. I want my car to have power but be balanced. I want my car to handle conners very well and still have power. I dont want to just slap a huge turbo on it either, becouse I DO NOT want alot of turbo lag.
Power-wise, I would like to have at least 300rwhp, and at most 400rwhp on the stock block. I've been looking at the s15 sr20 and the s14 sr20 but cant realy make up my mind. Most people I see have the redtops, is that a better choice?
Any advice on what motor and trans I should go with???

search first and compare all the motors. find what suits you best in terms of fun factor and price factor.

Hi
I have a Ca18det in my car (standard) an love it. It's light, performes very well (can easily whitstand 330hp in daily driving on stock internals). the motor is only 1800cc but behaves like a much bigger capacity engine.

u don't need a sr or 300hp to drift. u can drift well with the ka.

Not to mention they rev like maniacs! Pretty cool engine in my book.
However, driving, drifting whatever doesn't require an engine swap, or 300 hp. Or 200hp for that matter. It just requires that you can drive. SEAT TIME is what you need.
Also, 300hp will have a bit of lag. Lag is not necessarily a bad thing. lag is just what you have now, with an anticipation of boost. And boost is always only a downshift away. :)
400hp will have a good bit more lag..
KA,SR, and CA are all appropriate for what you want to do. you need to look more specifically at what you want the car to do so that it works WITH you.

yes and no
after a certain point you need the power. ka-t or a swap is in order.
you can only do so much on stock/minor bolt on KA. dependson track, driver, car setup, etc.
but i say do more research and find what suits you best. try to get and test them if you can too. i have tried a few types and i know what i am looking for and what my goal is :)

from what i heard the only reason to go with the s 15's heart is the tranny... with the price difference you could easly build the s 14 sr20det to blow the doors off the strawberry face.

im no master at driving art myslef, but personally i think you need seat time to get control of the car and noe its limit, cuz drifting with 300hp is harder to control than the 150 from the ka

Ok, let say you "DO" get a swap(Most of us say we will but its a 30%-40% likly hood you will) your gonna run into some problem, somone "Always" gotta get shafted so it happens with sellers who got not integredy(I feel sory for you victums) any ways you "Might" run into it.. and then the Emmisions for some of you might be a BIT scary for all ya'll folks there... Like Cali Damn i hear its harsh.. but in Washington.. were like the 2nd strictest taking Cali law and it seems alright.. Well with you people dont know... "P.O. na man, my s13's a 3 spd auto... so the swaps with out a doubt happening. Just not shure what to drop in... What attracts me to the s15 sr is its 6 spd but im not feelin the 10.0:1 compression. I'm pushin for a high reving, low compression, LIGHT motor... That 6spd would be nice also...

WTF are you talking about?
Only SRs I've seen with that kind of compression are NA SRs. You thinking of a TOMEI NA SR? ????
Well, if you wann give me an answer, PM me. I'm locking this thread down.
