what you make as a technician depends far more upon the dealership you work at, not the manufacturer, a guy i work with at a mazda dealer is considered a "mazda master technician" supposedly he's one of the ten best in the country and i think he makes six figures, don't do it for the money though, do it because you enjoy it

that'd be the only reason, why not do something you love and just happen to get paid for it? Then it doesn't feel like "work"

If you're in it for the money, work for a Lexus or Mercedes dealership. If you're in it for the job itself, what you're making won't matter as much as being under a Nissan will.

I'm pretty sure wherever mechanic's wind up working, they pull in a decent amount. But that, that's an assumption based entirely on what I give them. =)

I used to work in the Parts Dept at a Honda dealership. Let me tell ya', the techs make decent money. My g/f's uncle is a Honda tech, and although he is on the high end of the Honda pay scale, he makes enough to own a new two-story house, three cars and take care of two kids who are into every expensive hobby known to man. All this and he is divorced....single income household. Not too bad if you ask me.

Most techs appear to just be scraping by because of the cars they drive. But what I found out is that they spend so much time around cars anyway, they don't really care what they drive. Most of the guys at Honda drive 1988-1994 Civics and Accords. Simply because they're reliable and easy to work on.
