View Full Version : Adjusting for a Milled Head

A few months ago on my original ka24de(s13 hatch) I got my head milled 11 thousandths of an inch to get it straight. When I went to install the head this caused the distributor to not seat correctly with the timing gear. Eventually I ended up blowing the motor from an unrelated issue(drifting).

So my question(I am replacing my second ka head gasket this week), how do I adjust for the difference that is shaved off the head to keep distributor seating correctly?

If I were to also get the front upper timing cover shaved to match the head, wouldn't that still lower the distributor 11 thousandths - or whatever is shaved off of my current head, closer to the upper timing gear and prevent a proper seat?

Yeah you need to get the front timing cover milled with the head. Since the gear that the distributor connects with is attached to the head the seating will be the same.

wouldn't that still drop the distributor closer to the upper timing sprocket?

get a thicker head gasket to compensate for the shave.
