DIF Ver. D fan controller programming questions

Ok So I have searched and found some things for the previous versions but they still dont answer my questions. I have also tried to contact DIF 3x but they dont respond.

Ok so as my fan controller sits right now every wire is hooked into it minus the ac wire. As soon as I put the fuse in they just pulse on and off. After I go through the programming and reconnect battery power, they still pulse on and off whether the car is running or off until the battery dies.

What am I doing wrong here?

I have 12v at the B+ terminal
I Have ground at the B- terminal
I have 12v when the ignition is on at that terminal
I the fans clearly have good power and ground cause they actually turn on.
I have continuity for both wire taps on the coolant temp sensor.

Here is the exact thing I am doingto try and program this:

1. The key is off and not in car, all wires are hooked up.
2. I disconnect the ground and then put in the fuse.
3. I then disconect the b+ like the instructions.
4. Connect the ground.
5. Turn the switch on(same as connecting both together)
6. Set both rotary switches to E.
7. Connect b+ fans pulse constantly NOT any certain number of times.
8. Disconnect b+.
9. disconnect switch.

Step 10 i have tried 2 different ways;

First I tried it by just putting fuse back in (fans will constantly pulse with car off)
And I have also tried it by turning rotary switches back to A then connect b+ and move rotary switch back to E(fans pulsate constatnly with car off)

I tried turning the ignition to koeo and flip the manual switch but it does nothing and fans just continue to pulsate.

Do you have an instruction manual for what each terminal is suppose to be connected to? Did you tap into your ecu coolant temp sensor like it says?

Yea I have the instructions And yes I did tap into the coolant temp sensor as peviously state above. Tapped sensor pos on blue with orange stripe and neg on blk.

Everything is hooked up just as the instructions say.

With the key in the off position, pull off B+, B- and make sure the manual switch wires are NOT touching/connected. Make sure the B+ wire has the 25A fuse inline.

Connect the B- wire.
Connect the manual switch wires together (SG and SW).
Turn both rotary switches to A(0) then over to E(4).
Connect the B+ wire.
*Fans will now pulse*
After that, disconnect B+ wire.
Disconnect manual switch wires (SG and SW).
Make sure all wires are plugged in now. (keep manual switch wires disconnected!)

Now you can set rotary switches to the desired temperature.

you said to turn both to A then to E.....Mine are came on A does that matter? Do I need to move tehm to E then start the process?

Are the fans supposed to be pulsing right when i put the fuse in before i start the process?

Since I want them set to E do I need to move to them I turn them to E?

You set them to E(4) then as soon as you plug in the B+ wire the fans will start pulsing. The 25A fuse is connected in line with the B+ wire so that wire should not be connected until you do so to program it.

If the fans are pulsing and you haven't even connected the B+ wire yet, then you probably wired up the ignition on to 12V constant or something silly like that.

the fuse is inline with the b+ cable. once I put the fuse in it completes the circuit putting 12v to the controller making the fans kick on.

As for the ignition wire it is connected to the ig port and only get power when I turn the key on.

I figured it out. I dont have a/c so I wasnt using the a/c 12v port on the controller. I decided to hook up a jumper wire from the terminal to the battery during the process and now it works properly.

They should tell you that all wires need to be hooked up in some way, cause even on their troubleshooting page on the back it says a/c 12v wire(if used).

Hey Comaro, im having the exact same issue. Everytime i attach the B+ the fans pulse forever. This is for an 93 S13

this is the process im doing

Set both dials to A

Fan 1 power wire from fan to controller Fan 1
Fan 2 power wire from fan to controller Fan 2
Fan 1 and Fan 2 ground are connected together then to a chassis ground
Sensor + to blue wire on sensor
Sensor - to black wire on sensor
Ign to 12v ign in the cabin(key off and out whole time)
B- to battery ground
AC connected directly to the battery
Manual switch are connected together

Set both dials to E

Then i connect the B+ to the controller
The fans pulse non stop until i disconnect the B+
If i disconnect the manual switch and the AC then attach the B+ the fans still pulse wether the car is on or off.

How many times did the fans pulse or for how long?

Anyhelp would be great

Do it like this:

1. The key is off and not in car, all wires are hooked up.
2. Put the fuse in.
3. I then disconect the b+ and b-.
4. Connect the ground.
5. Turn the switch on(same as connecting both together)
6. Connect jumper wire from ac 12v pin to b+.
7. Set both rotary switches to E.
8. Connect b+. Fans pulse VERY RAPIDLY 4 times(if they dont at this point you messed up the process)
9. Disconnect b+.
10. disconnect switch.
11.Remove jumper wire.
12. Set rotary switches back to A.
13. Connect b+.
14. Move switches back to E.

Once you have gotten this far, the fans should no longer have that long drawn out pulse. Start the car and let it run for a second then flip the switch on to see if the fans come on.

THE FANS WILL NOT COME ON WITH THE SWITCH IF THE UNIT IS NOT PROGRAMMED PROPERLY.

so a little update on this, i have now gotten the controller programmed.
The fans have stopped pulsing endlessly.
Now my issue is the controller is not turning on the fans.
I have the first dial at E, Second Dial at H.
Car warms up i go for a drive and it will start overheating open hood fans are not on.
I have tried setting the First dial to B but the fan is not turning on.
I think it has to do with my 12v ign cable.
Camaro where did you get your 12v ign from?

Mine is from my turbo timer.

Did you make sure that you had continuity from the wire taps on the coolant temo sensor?


When you tried setting the dial to B did you reprogram it for B? After I had this all figured out I received a call from FR Sport because I had been emailing the manufacturer and they wouldnt respond to me. So I guess they called FR and was gonna have tehm help me out. They said to call anytime I needed help with it. You may want to try that.


Now that I think about it my fans have not kicked on neither, but I have a 62deg C thermostat I just put in as well that keeps the temps down. Either way keep me informed with what happens.

Yes i checked for continuity on the ign wire, i took it from my ABS but i dont think it is a good place to pull 12v ign from. i redid the sensor wire directly without using the taps.

I did not reprogram the controller when i set it to b.

im sure that once it is programmed you can move the dials to where you want the fans to turn on, the programming is just a backup for when the controller loses connection with the battery, am i wrong?

im going to give my self a break from this wiring tomorrow and figure it out on saturday.

Update on this thing.

I now have the box programed but it will not turn my fan's on, i have the dials set to E and H.

I have tried setting the dials lower but no change
i have checked and double checked all wires have continuity.

i connected the manual switch together but it does not work(SW to SG, no switch)
It did not turn the fans on.

But i connect the Ac cable and the fans turn on with the ign on.
So that is how i have it hooked up right now.

How has yours been working camaro?

They should come on with the manual switch if the box is programmed. Check to see if you have power to the wire of the switch and make sure your switch is bad.

I'm not using a switch, i just connected both sg and sw together, that should make the fans turn on.
i think there might be something wrong with the box.

anyone know if this thing loses it's settings if it doesnt have the battery hooked up for a while? This thing seems like a Pain in the butt to reprogram every single time you need to disconnect the battery.

it will hold a charge for at least a few weeks that I know of. when I had mine warrantied they sent it to me programmed and I didnt install it until 2 weeks later and it worked without having to reprogram it.

and does anyone know of any good switched 12v ignition sources inside the engine bay? It's a 1998 240sx
