Ever since I have my automatic S13, it has an intermittent problem in the speedometer. Sometimes it would work fine, then all of a sudden go to the max. Sometimes it would stay there after a complete stop. Sometime, at low speed, it would read twice the speed. Plus I have my doubts on actual speed.

I need to know how can I solve this problem. I searched the forum, and answers are varied (from circuit shorts to VSS malfunction).

And what is the speed @ 2500 rpm. It used to read moer or less 60 MPH, but is now reading more or less 55 MPH. Odometer works fine.

Any help is appreciated.

I am not sure off the top of my head the way they are on 240's but on my truck it did this and I had to rebuild the cluster. The motor for the speedo was goin bad.

What kind of truck? Nissan?

I also have to say that the bouncing happens more often on wet conditions and rainy days. It is rainy in the southeast area of PR as of today.

No it was a gmc but I have seen similar issues in the altima and frontier when I worked for nissan.

If it happens more on rainy days is it somehow getting water to the wiring? Have you checked for any green death?

Green death? As in corrosion?

Since I haven't had a look under the car, and I recently removed the cluster and seem all fine, I will have a look at the wiring.

iirc the speed sensor is gear driven, I'd start there, if the teeth on the gear (plastic) are worn out, they won't drive the gear correctly, therefore weird speedo.
