guys i was thinking of a t3/t4 to replace my s15 t28 on my s13 SR20DET. do you think this is a good idea? cuz i just really want to go faster. honsetly im breaking lots of kids on the mountains... which is a really bad place to run anyways (but im used to it now). but anyways i decided dragging and i got smashed on by a wrx STi that only had an exhaust and piping. i feel sad. need more speed.... blah. and theres some cons im worried about. help feed my addiction. holla
cons of t3/t4-
-very noticible (hello mr. officer)
-has to be top mounted (well... cuz of the housing)
-expensive (there's always ebay brands =) right...)
-my smoger will not pass that sh!t.

You can probably find a place that can make you a bottom mount manifold. Has an officer ever looked under your hood?

i just took apart my other car that was running a T3/60-1 garrett and i must say i loved this turbo. it's a T3 .48a/r with a stage 3 wheel and a 60-1 compressor wheel/housing mated together. lots of flow, but quick spool as well for such a large turbo, which the .48 housing has a lot to do with. i'd see full boost (20psi) by 3800rpm and it would hold rock solid to redline with no dropoff. this was on a mitsubishi G54bT motor with 8:1 compression, sohc 8 valve motor. not great for flow so i can imagine what it would be like on the SR.
the con on this would be slower spool than the BB T28. where the T28 is always there for ya, this turbo comes on hard after 3k and feels somewhat laggy down low. but with the revs the SR can achieve it would work well i think.

hey man im doing the same thing i have a s15 motor and just sold my t28bb. i plan on using www.full-race.com top mount manifold. its kinda pricy at abot 1000 bux but they have a lifetime garentee and if it cracks they replace it for free!!!!!!!!! cant beat that. its worth the haassles and strugles of replacing the cheap 400 dollar ones. or there is unstable-hybrids.com , i have a friend talking to them abotu making a log style cast iron top mount wich would probibly take a good beating for a long long time. i liek the way the full race one looks. pluss with there manifold they make 458 to the wheels with a stock motor.the turbo im looking at is either theres some special hybrid they make like 900 or go to www.cheapturbos.com and im looking at there t3/60.1 w/.63 a/r stge 3 wheel. good for like 370hp at abotu 12 psi and at 24 man a good 450-500 range. drop some cams and ull get full boost at 35-3800. this is what im loooking into. now the guy up top is talking somthing similar wich im now gonna research but witha .48 ill have to look into that for quick spool up. not sure if the #'s would be as high tho.....?

the .48 won't flow quite as much as a .63 up top, but i know of people still using a ported T25 housing with this same compressor making 369 to the wheels at 16psi. it's a T25 housing with a T28 wheel, and a 60-1 compressor all mated together. The difference in a T25 and a T3 .48 is decently large, so no doubt the .48 can go over 400whp. plus the 60-1 compressors tend to really like it at 23+psi, 16 is a bit below it's efficiency range but they're fairly versatile.

BTW, those full race manifolds are a beauty to behold;) . a friend of mine runs one on his 583whp Civic Hatchback (he also runs a T3/60-1 garrett turbo with a stage 5 wheel and .63 housing).

what are the differences between the 2 wheels. now im leaning twards the .63 a/r cuz of the nice large HP #'s

basically the stage 5 wheel has different blade angles for higher overall flow. i've never gotten the chance to compare the two side by side, but the stage 5 wheel does make it a bit laggier overall. it just depends on what actual power level you're shooting for. if you're looking for 425+ and don't mind a little lagginess then the stage 5 wheel is the way to go. if you're shooting between 350-425 and want a quicker spool then the stage 3 works good. please understand that i'm using numbers i've seen out of other motors on this as i've never used/seen these turbos on SR's, but then again most of the people i know running them are on 2.0L DOHC 4 cylinder engines so the comparison is somewhat close.
and one word of advice here, buy a Garrett turbo, not the overpriced Turbonetics crap. the garretts are built tougher and much cheaper for similar products compared to turbonetics (plus turbonetics turbos are just rebadged Garrett units for the most part anyway). cheapturbo has the best deals i've found on the garrett pieces, that's where i got my current one and i'm very happy with it.

thnx for the info. now those # were u quoting for the .48 a/r or the .63 a/r? i want fairly quick spool up i kno its not gonnabe fast like the t28 bb and im willing to throw some cams in for the tupgrade. i just want to be ablt to reach 500HP when needed
