I just read road and track and I can't believe that Lotus Elise is finally coming out. My brothers and I have been dreaming about this car and now it is a reality. They say it is suppose to come out spring '04 and cost alittle under $40 grand.

A 2ZZ? Is that the Celica GTS 1.8L engine? Somewhere, either R&T or Motortrend, said it was going to have a 2.2L engine...and 190hp?

190hp in a car that weighs under 2000lbs...bye bye 405hp Corvette! :)

Yes, Toyota Celica GT-S engine with 6-speed tranny. And the car weighs about 1700lbs.

The looks of the Elise grow on you.

And that's not an AMV8. It's just a plain-jane V12 Vanquish... :p

hmm i heard they got the weight down by using fiberglass body panels. is that true? btw, driving around a tiny, light weight, fiberglass body car in a country full of SUVs driven by soccor moms doing their make up = death. that might as well be a 40k coffin. :P

I don't mind the looks of the Elise. Very distinctive, especially the insect-like front. If you've never seen one in real life, make sure you do before you pass judgement. Pictures don't do the car justice.

I'm sure the car is amazing to drive, but the MSRP makes me gag. I wish, wish, WISH that GM would just drop their obsession with being the blandest car company in America and bring the goddamn Opel Speedster over to this side of the Atlantic. They could probably sell that car here for around $20k, and I'd be one of the first people in line to get one.
