View Full Version : Koyo Rad and FAL dual fans... How did you mount them?

I apologize before hand if this has been discussed already, I tried searching. I'm in the process of installing my Koyo and FALs on my SR'd S13, and I'm curious as to how everyone has mounted their fans onto their Koyo's. I myself do not trust those "radiator ties" or or zipties because lets face it no matter what you call it, it's still a piece of flimsy plastic, and I myself don't trust that, so lets see if anyone made an alternate method of installing their fans, Let's try to get some pictures if possible.

Yeah, I know about that, and I figured a lot of people would come up with that answer but I'm trying to see if there are any sturdier methods. I personally don't like the "zip tied" method considering they will eventually break, it has happened to a buddy and I while we were driving cross country:duh:, we ended up having to drive about 100 miles with out a fan, luckily it was cold as fuck, lol.

these not zip ties they go in between the fins an hold the fan or just buy metal zipties

use these:

if you use just a ziptie without that padding piece, expect some ugly radiator fin damage.

Those are exactly what was used/failed to hold the fans on my friends car, they can give out eventually. Really?! When people buy $250 radiators and a $200 fan setup they just resort to using $5 over-exagerated zipties? Hasn't someone come up with a sturdier mounting solution? I'm not trying to knock everyone's suggestions/solutions but I just don't feel comfortable with those "radiator ties" myself.

you can always resort to some crappy china fan + shroud combo..

if you have the cash I can offer alternatives, but that is the cheapest route.

I'm curious, as long as it wont cost me more than the radiator itself I might be interested. lol

I recommend this

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MRG-1994/?rtype=10

or radiator zip ties.

if your good enough or pay someone the right amount you can have someone make custom brackets from the radiator to fan

or

you can use these to get an idea for other options:

right,

you can use ford taurs 3.8L fan and it will be better than ALL e-fans out in the market.
uses STOCK mounting location too ! or mishmoto (whatever that mean) or ISIS fan shroud with fans, granted its a piece of aluminum and some ebay fans that is sold for 250$+ but its bolt on matter.

FYI stock clutch fan > ALL e-fans.

FYI #2

3.8L taurs fan is 2600CFM @ low speed and 4500CFM @ high speed
Ebay fans are 900-1100 CFM each
Stock fan ??? CFM

The CFM of the Tarus fan is actually too much on high, and the amperage is too. Plus, I paid for FAL fans for a reason, so I would like to use them, and not anything else. Thanks anyways.

I'm actually in the process of trying to make some brackets for the FAL fans to be properly mounted onto the radiator.

if you want to pay 265 for a sheet of AL and set of fans....OR you can make your own shroud and fit'em fans on.

About the taurs fan and sucking to much amps...nothing a set of 80amp relays can't handle :)

Hey man I will sell you some rad ties for 3.99$ at 15.99$ so that you can feel safe that you spent a lot of money on them. If you are paranoid check them once in a while see if there is any wear and when there is just replace them. I would trust what 9K racing is saying because they build engine and work with rads all the time.

Yeah, although the Mishimoto fans seem like a good idea, that price is insane, plus I already have my FAL fans sitting here collecting dust. I guess I'll have to fabricate some sort of bracketry this weekend. About the Taurus fans, true you could solve it with am 80A fuse or two 40A fuses, but it's still kinda lame because you're only going to use the low function, I doubt you'll ever need to use the high function...lol
