New axles making clicking noise?

Hey guys, I need some help. I searched almost everywhere online trying to find more info while also educating myself more on axles.

My passenger axle started leaking... here is what happened.

I replaced the passenger side and thought, why don't I just change both out. I just bought some new axles from Oriely Auto Parts... I put them in and took them for a spin. Immediately I heard clicking noises coming from the axles.. they make noise when I accelerate in a straight line, the clicking noises click faster as I accelerate faster.

I made sure all the bolts were tight (axle nut torqued to 170ftlbs and axle shaft output bolts to 20ftlbs)

I am not sure why the clicking noise is still happening.. I read that you should grease up the axle... which I didn't do, maybe thats why its clicking?

I also heard that some axles don't work with low cars... the cv joints will click.

Can anyone help me out?

Anyone? I am drawing the conclusion that the axles I have simply won't work because my car is too low which is making the cv joints click...

The CV's need to have grease in them or you will ruin them quickly.

I would think that that the CV's would have been greased out of the box but if they aren't you need to do that before you drive the car.

A clicking noise as you described would typically be a worn out CV or a CV that no longer has grease in it.

It is possible that a pair of new axles come ungreased in the CV's? I was rotating the joint around and it didn't sound like it had any grease..

I would think that it would come greased, but you'll have to check.

generally they come greased unless you had to put the boots on b/c they usually come with a pinch clamp that isnt very easy open and reclamp (unless you know what you are doing).

You might have gotten bad axles out of the box tho highly unlikely to get 2 at once.

I see you said you just installed your rucas, did you by chance test drive it with that camber? That would cause them to bind an subsequently click.

Either way when they click most of the time they are bad.



Your car is not low enough to scarp axles that fast.

Anyone else have any input on this? My 2nd pair of OEM axles are donezo.... I am pretty low on stock 16's about -2 camber and welded diff...

Might give the oriely axles another try...

Could be the fact that you're running poorly remanufactured axles (o'reilys, autozone, kragen, napa, etc..)

Try getting some USED stock ones.. That's probably you're best bet.

since you dnt mind taking pics maybe take a pic of the rear end, showing how angled the axles are as your car sits

making sure there greased is definatly a big deal
you also know that they are driver and passenger side specific right?
...buuuuut you'd probably have other problems if that were the case so yeah,.....loll
