Im hoping u guys can help me with a question I got. I can't seem to find concrete information. So, I'm wiring an autometer rpm gauge (part number 2300) on my s13 ka24de. The Instructions say the green wire should go to the negative side of the coil. (pic 1 black and red wire) . Would just taping into it would be fine? Since I see other people posting they tap into pin 7 on the ecu. but then some say it won't work. Any info would help. Thanks here some pics for reference.

In order for the tach to work properly it needs a square wave form to trigger the tack. The problem is that the sr & ka ecu put out a varable signal that the aftermarket units can't read properly no mater what you solder onto the line. Thus the tach won't show the proper revs and it will show only 4K rpms at red line. What you need is a MSD tach driver PN 8913. It's a small box that wires into the power wire of a coil. The unit senses current draw on the line and puts out a square wave form that in turn drives the tach accordingly. you can get one from summit at MSD Ignition 8913 - MSD Distributorless Ignition Tachometer Adapters - Overview - SummitRacing.com (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-8913/). Now I have no clue weather your ka uses a distributer or not as I have only delt with the sr. But I do know that with electronic ingitions you need this unit.

I messages Jeff Jordan he said all I would need would be a 10k pull up resistor if I tap into the green wire going to the coil from inside the cabin . If not just tap into the wire from the coil....

I was told to use a 10k so abit more power. And also. How did u put the ohms resistor ? Taped it up ? Soder it?

Im having the same problem. I have auto meter part number 9117 and glow shift tach. I got nothing from tach signal from ecu, needle move a little from number 1 coil pack signal and up to 4-5k rpm from blue/red wire before the coil pack harness. redtop on s13 btw

Use the diagram I posted above. It works

^^ but your diagram uses signal from ecu. I don't have that anymore since the part that gives signal from my ecu is burnt up.
