So I noticed that a lot of new cars recently came with this type of dimpled heat shield.
I had a close look at one before and it seems to be really formable and the edges can be rolled so it is not sharp. It seems to insulate well enough since some are used for manifold and exhaust parts.
On the production car they probably stamped anyway but I'd imagine the base material is just comes in pre dimpled sheets.
I can think of tons of use in my car but I have not find anyone selling it. Any ideas?

What on earth would you need to shield using this stuff?

It's nice (and expensive) but what gets that hot that traditional heat protection won't work?
