View Full Version : Stock Metal Pimping

I've been looking for the past few days for threads on stretching stock metal to it's limit. But there isn't much on here.
Seeing Drifting-pedobear's post reminded me about this. I've done some extra smedium pulls/rolls, but Im looking for some extreme ones and some tips on how it was done. Im not looking for sectioned and rewelded fenders though. Just straight sweat and anger applied to stock metal.
Tips/Tricks/Pics??

Looking for methods/tips involving the least amount of paint repair/body work possible. I know that hard though.

Nico your car done yet? I need to see you at the track sir.
My drivers side always comes out better because I can hang out the door and hold the jack handle while I drive.

Holding jack handle out the window is lulz.
Me and Jonny have been trying to get our vehicles finished for a minute trying to get to the track! I'm doing it slow(er) since I'm looking for a new place. All I need to do is paint my shit and I'll be set.

Been looking for some good info on this for a while! Tryin to fit an 18x11 -16 on stock body without 10° of negative camber

You are limited by the inner fender metal. You will only be able to do so much without cutting it out.
This is from before I did that:
http://knoop.sumospeed.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/kit5.jpg
17X11 -1 with ~-3 camber...and significant rubbing.
Now I've cut it out and pulled it way further, and have -1.4 deg of camber and zero rubbing
http://knoop.sumospeed.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/cutout2.jpg
Up front I've got some 17X10 -18s and -2.7 deg:
http://knoop.sumospeed.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/swift7.jpg
Its taken some serious hammer work, and I need to do more.
To get the original pull I used lots of force (think football defensive line force) with a fender roller and I moved the head up higher in the wheel well to get the maximum clearance. You just have to keep cranking on it, and if you run out of thread on the roller you can just use some bolt on spacers to get more leverage.

Nope, my front fender tubs look like this:

As you can see, the upper fender arm thingy has been trimmed.

I have a trailer fender I am cutting up and am going to weld back in, and I'll probably use some seam sealing or great stuff to fill it in from the chassis side, just to make sure I don't have smoke and shit coming in the cabin.

Me and my bro did something similar to 95ka-turbo's when we were rolling my rear fenders. Instead of removing alot of material we made relief cuts along the inner fender. This allowed for an easy roll/ pull and sealing it up should be pretty simple after I attempt to fit my 18x12 -13 back there. So far the roll I did was with my mb's and I believe 30-40mm of spacer. We also used 3/4 inch electrical conduit and phone books for the roll/pull. Here is a pick of how they came out so far. I will take some pics of the inner fender to show the relief cuts tonight.

And the back side. It isn't completed yet and we were debating spray foam in there or adding material to fill it up. Since it's gonna get paint it may get welded.
http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz329/alcolade/Cars/th_da0e7163.jpg (http://s840.photobucket.com/albums/zz329/alcolade/Cars/?action=view¤t=da0e7163.jpg)
But it still needs to come out more to fit the 18x12 -13. That or finally install the rear uppers and camber more. The car is still on stock arms. Lol
http://i840.photobucket.com/albums/zz329/alcolade/Cars/th_52279cd8.png (http://s840.photobucket.com/albums/zz329/alcolade/Cars/?action=view¤t=52279cd8.png)
From pulling mine with a 18x9.5 spaced to a -5et and a 245-40 tire with no cutting and getting it to here fitting his wheel on my car.

To his pull with the cuts made pulling it with a 18x9.5 spaced to -15 with a 235-40 tire, his 12s should be able to fit after we can seat the tires and can actually roll it with them. (been trying for a while, gotta make a second cheater tank and try that. Fire hasn't been working for us)

Slightly off topic:
I wish there was a way not to bang the paint all up when doing this. I've used heat, tape, combo of both, a bat etc etc...but never quite was able to know the 'limit' of pushing metal until the paint would crack.
Anyone else have suggestions on this?

You just have to heat it up until it hurts to touch it, then the paint won't crack. Unless your paint is just in terrible condition.

Yeah, I do most of the fenders down in my area (I just did fenders on a Donk car, LOL), so when people want a pull done I always tell them I recommend getting body work done afterwards. Just because every piece of metal is different on every car...same goes for paint. Pulling fenders on Hondas sucks a whole lot more then doing 240s though, haha.
I pulled the rear fenders on SilentDancer's blue S15 and was crying on the inside the whole time.
You can't see it all that well, but he was getting body work done, so its perfect, hahaha:

so i just finished UNROLLING the fender and cut off the lip. the rear fenders are now kinda like overs. the fender comes down from the window without the lip that gets rolled in. if that makes any sense. they are sharp lol. i carefully filed them and masked them off to spray the raw edge to prevent rust.
i also cut out my rear inner fender metal. almost knoop-spec. although im not trying to pull my fenders as much, i did this because i was grinding the shit out of my WHEEL on the inner fender. like metal to metal grinding and it fucked up my other wheels. my problem is solved now, just have to find a way to seal it up.
dont think im gonna be able to weld onto the back side of the painted fender so im stumped. dont wanna burn the paint. any suggestions? ill try to get pics up when there's light out.

Not only that, but being that we get salt/dust/dirt grime on the road, I'd be concerned over getting rust starting up in there, and causing havoc as it's non coated metal :(

Haha funny you mention Honda's as I had a friend with a TSX who wanted them rolled, and it had a super odd squared off part, and a super rigid inner plastic liner that (and i'm sure it's possible but I couldn't sort it out) that wouldn't come out. Needless to say I declinded that job, and let them rent the tool. They ended up just cutting the fenders and banging them up.
Early VW's in the front suck pretty good too with that dual metal liner in them...totally a MFER.
95KA-Turbo
04-18-2011, 09:56 AM
Yeah, there are literally 26 bolts/clips holding the TSX front fender liners on. I use a razor blade and cut out a semicircle of the splash guard so I can roll the front fenders (on any car that still has them).
Although, I don't use a roller on front fenders because they're super flimsy on most Japanese cars. I use a body hammer that doesn't take paint off and the 'fender finisher' tool. They come out way nicer looking, it just takes a little more time.
I should finally be able to get my freaking metal welded back in the rear of my car tonight!
Marcus, you could fiberglass the area closed, but it may require some tending to over time. OR you could tack weld the metal to the inside part of your fender and use seam sealer and great stuff to stick it to the outside part and seal up the cabin.

You might as well use sheet metal...but the trailer fender was just enough material to do the job. I had to hack it up into pieces though.
I'll post pictures in a min, I need to clean the metal shavings off of me.
In the mean time. Look for a body hammer like the one second from the left with the different colored tips:

Those fenders aren't radiused. Radiused fenders are where the entire fender line is actually moved up on the car like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/dbloemhard/VIP/Image119.jpg
Notice how the top of the fender is almost level with the door handle, that's probably 3 or 4 inches higher than it is stock. That SC looks like it had a widebody constructed using the stock fenders which are then blended using more metal much like this guy did:

in my defense, chargespeed overs are the only ones which cover the entire rear qp and look just like a largely pulled stock metal qp. plus its gonna look fucking awesome with stock bumpers. just wide as hell

Anybody thought of actually cutting flares off of one car and welding them to another? Obviously I havent looked into what it would really require as far as measurements, but I used to drive a couple 3rd gen F-bodies and they have a great flare. Ive considered chopping one up to put those on my S13. Think it would work?

That's a 17x9.5 -4 with a 225/45. I think it's about an inch pull. I had to cut out a bit of the inner fender because the previous owner cut off the 'lip' instead of rolling it up and it kept cutting up my tires.
(it's a RAVS sticker, BTW)
EDIT: Camber is ~-0.5

Fucking love the rear pulls. Might pull mine over the winter and hopefully the bondo that's kind of close to the edges won't crack anywhere...

Back from the dead!! ^ I need to see that car in person. Cause that's what I want my pull to look like. Here is where my pull is currently:
