View Full Version : help, car vibrates between 60-65 mph
ok, for about 1 week now, my car starts to vibrate at aroud 60-65mph. I thought is was the tires, so i swapped them out yesterday. same thing. i dont believe it is the suspension since the vibrating stops after i reach 65mph. if it was the suspension, it would get worse with speed (i think). all 4 rims are in perfect shape. any idea/suggestions would be great. thanks.

If it is in the seat of your pants, it is warped rear rotors (too much hand brake use?)
If it is in the steering wheel, warped front rotors. Our rotors warp easy from a few heavy brakings.
This is Cue #1

Guess it could be the alignment.
Or maybe the wheels aren't balanced. Even if the rims look in great shape, maybe a weight fell off.

search, there is a TSB on this. it can be fixed but it requires shimming the steering column IIRC...
also it could just be your alignment.

Also, even thought it is at a high speed and would be noticed at any speed, check the tires for impact bumps, loose lug nuts, seized calipers and the things that the other guys suggested.
if it were the front rotors, that would be during breaking only, right? my car is shaking when i am off the brakes as well as on the brakes at the speed listed above. lugs seem to be cool, tires look correct, and i just had them balanced. any other ideas? thanks again.

I had that exact same thing happen with my car when I bought it. I replaced my suspension with a nice spring and shock combo and it went away. By the way, I'm selling mine if you actually decide to get a new suspension.

A broken belt on a tire can do that...but you said you ruled out the tires ...so I would guess worn suspension. My ball joints are leaky and I think my TC bushing are shot also....and at certain speeds there is a good 1-2 inches of play in the steering.

Well i have the vibration happen only around 2700 rpm like about 60-65 mph but after that the vibration dissappears. Its only felt through the gas pedal and is very irritating and i think the solution to it is worn ground wires need to be replaced. Also it makes this buzzing sound from behind my dash somewhere, it sounds electrical. Or can it be the motor mounts?

sound from behind the dash is probably just trim pieces or assorted dash bits rattling against each other because of vibration from either the road or the engine.
gotta remember how old the chassis is that you are working with. I'd say first off take your car in to be checked out and aligned. If any of your stuff is blown, replace it first (tc rods, bent control arms, tie rods, tie rod ends, shocks, etc) and then get it aligned. If the problem persists than pursue the TSBs solution of steering column shims.
And if the interior continues to rattle then take the dash apart, figure out where it is rattling, and tighten it up with some sound deadening material or something.
or just quit whining and deal with it!:p
