Oh yeah, and I'm feeling absolutely torn about selling Eleanor. I love this 63, and I'll probably still get another beater Nissan semi-soon, or a 240, but man, this is the first truck I could actually mod, and it was fun. But, I'm selling her for 5200 obo, if anyone has an interest.

which motor is in ther the pic is really dark. My friend has a 66' with the 360. They've rebuilt the motor, trans, rear end and replace pretty much everything but the body. He's trying to get me to help him do the body work and then paint it. If you need some parts sources or info about the truck I could probably help you out.

The cool thing about that truck is that:

1. It's a classic
2. It's original
3. It's easy to mod
4. That is gonna be one fun ass project!

Good luck Chicken Man, and Congrats! If you need any references to Ford Restoration contacts lemme know.

Hey PunkGenius, and Idunit:

I need to find a source for tranmission rebuild kits for the original 3 speed, (1963 F100) and a manual steering gear box. Preferably just a rebuild kit. If you guys know where I can get 'em, I'd appreciate it.

I've had no luck finding tranny rebuild kits, and the only manual steering gear box I've found was hole and ridiculously expensive, much less it was for 66 on.

Oh yeah, the motor is a 223 straight 6. 3.6 liters I believe. At first I was kinda bummed, cause I wanted the 4.3 liter 6. But I was looking at the specs for the truck in the front of LMC last night, and it turns out the stock hp is 135. Not bad for the size of the 6. Didn't have torque specs though. Kinda curious. Funny thing was the 4.3 had 132 hp, but I'm sure a buttload more torque.

I did some quick lookin around for ya this morning, you can call UTE @ Ute Parts Warehouse 1639 N 40th St Phoenix, AZ (602) 275-5781 . They have most listings for manual transmission parts. Usually most in stock.

Man, when I get this truck working properly, I'm gonna come down there and thank you in person. That helps a lot. I'm gonna call em at lunch I think.

I'll have to ask my friend if he kept his old steering box. He swapped his out for power steering. He also has an extra block sitting in his garage. It's 360/390 block. It still has the internals just no pan, heads or intake. If you wanted to build a monster motor (428) you can get hi performance heads, 4 bbl intake and a new pan and be in business. I think he'd darn near give it away at this point. Where are you from? He's also got most if not all of an extra 3spd tranny sitting on his workbench that we were going to put together one day.

chickenmanq
02-06-2002, 04:50 PM
I'm originally from Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, but I'm in Flagstaff Arizona at the moment. Right now I'm going to keep the 6 cylinder, but I've got a manifold scoped out to put a 4 bbl on it, and some nicer headers, and it should make somewhere around 200 or more horses when I'm done with it. And if I can find a blower...... hehehehe. 8:4:1 compression is just perfect. I'll think about that V8 though. Maybe if I get it running well enough, I'll take a trip to NC. Not that it's cost-efficient, but it would be fun. Probably not soon though.

The extra 3 speed is a curiosity. The one I've got now is pretty sloppy. Is it in decent shape?

chickenmanq
02-06-2002, 04:55 PM
Oh yeah, how decent is the steering box, and is the year he took it off between 61-64? If it's older or younger than that range, it won't fit.

You can't sell Eleanor, are you kidding me?

chickenmanq
02-06-2002, 09:45 PM
Yeah, I know. Terrible, isn't it? Unfortunately, I won't have enough money to complete the 63 project unless I sell her. However, I figure I'll pick up a 240sx or another truck with a million miles and rebuild stuff after I get finished building the 63. It's not that I don't love Eleanor, but I really really like the lines and the simplicity of the 63, named Alberta. I'll put a Nissan sticker on the back window though. I think that'll be enough to let people know that I'm not a retarded hick who only has the capability to rebuild simple "good ol boy" trucks.

By the way, whaddya think about colors? So far, it's gonna be all white or all red. Ferrari racing red, that is. I would paint it black, but that just gathers heat and show off any scratches. And I don't know about a flame paint job until I have a huge hp engine to back it up, which I probably won't do unless it becomes strictly a show truck.

Ahahahahahahah! Yeah right. This, unlike many restored old cars, is going to be a daily driver. I can't see investing time and money into an automobile and not using it. It just means I'll have to take good care of it, and fix the fenders immediately if they get dented, unlike poor Eleanor's fender, which has been dented for six months or so now.

S13Grl
02-06-2002, 09:47 PM
How'd you come about calling her Eleanor?

chickenmanq
02-06-2002, 10:22 PM
When I first got her, I wasn't used to such a short wheelbase and power. THe Mazda B2000 I had was a longbed and gutless. Ended up dumping her into the highway median just outside Wallace, Idaho, on my was to AZ. Had to pay 80 bucks for a tow truck. But the truck was unfazed, and I had just watched a special on Eleanor Roosevelt about how tough an old biddy she was, and progressive for those days, and I thought she was a worthwhile person to name the truck after. She was rather iconoclastic, as I would be if in a public office. ####, if I could find a girl with that in her that would tolerate me, I'd marry her on the spot.

So that is where the name comes from.

Paint it 60's appliance green (the turquiosish color), that'd do the trick :-)

Color suggestion for Alberta:

Ford Guardsman Blue, this is the color of the stripes on the Ford Mustang Shelby GT 350, also a stock color on 289 and 427 Cobra's. It's a good 'Ford' color. I have wanted to paint something that color for about 10 years. Just a suggestion.

I support the Punk. I also think that would be a great idea, even though I really haven't wanted to paint anything that I own Ford Blue.

Are you planning on restoring it back to original or custom or a little of both? My friend started off making his "all original" and I was like come on we gotta trick this out a little. Well after a while I talked him into a grant steering wheel, shorter shifter and some custom rims. That was all i could muster out of him. Now he bought an 01' f-150 and I'm trying to talk him into lowering it, putting bags, some rims, and a tanneu cover. He's going to sell the oldie to his dad.

Planning on keeping almost everything original, but if original is too expensive, I'm going to make it myself. Already thinking about short shifter. The throw is like a foot and a half, I swear. I want a 4 barrel carb and a better header than the stock cast iron. I'm usually in favor of making parts rather than buying a simple piece that costs 300 bucks. The heater hoses are wired to the firewall, but it has no heater. I think I'm going to stick in dual electric heaters somewhere, like the old FJ40 Toyotas had. I don't want a big ol heater core screwing up my space underneath the dash. May take out all the air ductwork too. No AC, and with the vents, there's not much point in a fan motor. May just pipe a little heat from the floor heaters to the windshield. Not sure how yet.

The truck will be a daily driver, I guarantee it.
