I went to change out my thermostat yesterday and got the wrong part so I decided to put it back together without the thermostat in. Well after driving today my temp gauge read that I was at stock temp. is this right even without a thermostat in. does any body have any experience with this. any feed back would be apreceated.

Thermost state stays closed to allow your coolant to heat up faster to allow you to get heat faster is it not? no thermostate should just mean your coolant is gonna circ. full time just will take longer to reach your normal temp range. :) if u boil it in water i think once it hits a certian degree it pops open allowing "coolant" to be circ into the radiator :)... if i'm wrong someone please flame me so i never post agian :aw:

thanks for the info. as I was driving this afternoon I was thinking about that as the reason. I am now trying to figure out why it sometimes wants to run normal and at other times it wants to run cold.

maybe u need a flash out your system. If it has blockage it could heat up just as fast as a thermostate being closed

Believe it or not, most cars will run hotter without a thermostat because the coolant won't stay in the radiator long enough to cool off...
