I didn't like the yellow tail lights so I masked and spray painted it a special red. What do you guys think ? good match?

ever hear of COMPRESSED jpgs?
damn
that image was .5 a megabyte.. and it wasn't even a large image!
I compressed it (really hard to do... open PSP8 or whatever and hit Save) and reuploaded it.
Now it's a 56k friendly 140k

If you could make it look shiny that would be cool but as for the way it looks in that pic, I'm not feelin it at all. Be proud of the amber. Get some plastic polish and make it look good.

It looks odd, cuz it doesnt match too great, the signal seems dull and a bit more red. Get some further away pics, it'll prolly look better.
Just shave it off and rewire the signals some how, go k's style... style:D

If the color doesnt match, why not spray both (brake light and signal) and then buff em'.

not bad...good job. anything special to it or is it pretty straight forward? id like mine clear/white instead of amber but i dont really have the money for the clearcorners.com one nor enough for the 180sx tail lights (id prefer these :-D even if there is an amber color on the outer part of the red light)

it would still come out uneven. The top will be a lot deeper red, while the bottom will still show some orange.
and k style, k's style, whatever, you get the point.

Okay then... spray the upper red part with amber colored spray tint.....then they'll match.
I wonder how clear corners gets the signal part clear? Do you think they have that clear part fabricated??...purchased in Japan??...or do they open the signal up and use paint thinner to remove the orange spray tint (assuming its orange spray tint)??

Don't use paint thinner, I took my center piece where it says "240SX" and used paint thinner to get the reflection off the back so i could run a light w/ my brake lights so it would light up the 240sx. Sounded like it would be cool so i tried it, screwed up my center piece, i got like a grayish mark kinda like burn'd the plastic almost. looks really crappy i wish i owned a camara to show you.. IMO Leave that to professionals unless you have many spare parts :).

i did this to my civic (all red) and did it to my ex-boyfriends 240 (red top and smoke bottom)
just wet sand and use the same uv protectant(sp) clearcoat
we used testers model transparent paint and clearcoat
on my 240 im painting them trans purple
they also have trans blue

i think it looks nice. assuming it was as cheap and easy as you make it sound, definitely worth it.
though i do like the look of the clearcorners.com red/white lights (like what dousan has) a little bit better. and i do like the kouki lights (like what i have) even more...but hey, it's all about personal preference:D

Shoulda used Goo Gone, it totally loosens all the paint and it peels away like a wet paper bag. You're right tho, thinner may be too harsh. So far I've opened 3 center garnishes and have designed an LED lit center garnish (just the word "240sx" lights up....hooked up to the running lights not brake).
The tail lights are clear plastic unlike the center garnish which is painted silver and black. The fact that Clearcorners requires your tail lights as a core charge leads me to believe they either "unstain" the orange, or replace that amber plastic peice with a clear plastic one. Thats what Im trying to figure out.
For polishing the plastic...goto Home Depot and buy a 4-5 inch buffing wheel and some Tripoli Compound to polish with, make sure it says "for plastics" on the package. Hook the buffing wheel to a drill and go for it. All the S14 folks with jelly-bean (95-96) yellow stained headlights can do this too.

Well I dont know exactly what clear corners does. But it is possible to open up the tails and remove the amber color. How they do it, who knows, but I know someone that did it themselves, forget what he used, but he removed the amber part.
I am sure clear corners does the same thing. Once they recieve yours they probably send out a finished one, then get to working on the one you sent.

sigh i love to read from misinformed youth
its NOT a insert. that amber part is all amber. its not a amber layover or insert
clearcorners removes the amber (carefully becauseits not easy to take out) and replaces w/ high quality..whatever they use
i have some. i like them.:) but only temporary. another set of taillights going on soon ;)

Well I guess clearcorners does it in a different way. Somehow this guy did it w/o replacing anything, if I ever see him again I'll ask him, it was a long process I didn't plan on doing so I didnt pay too much attention.
took me and a buddy 7mins to mask and 20mins for 2 coats to dry...

Check it out:

You can just guess what he is writing about. (I´m not danish if your wondering, but icelandic)

Hmm...interesting link. Although fabricating those wooden templates might make this technique extremely difficult for most of the people here. What might be easier is to get a set of disposeable tail lights and take out the orange peice....then pour some sort of mold material inside there....let it set up...and remove it, then use that as your template.
