WHich springs will be worth my time?

ALright, I searched long enough and I have to say, couldn't find any definitive answers here.

I just bought my 1990 S13 Hatch and a friend gave me his used but in good condition Koni Yellows to install on it. I want to lower the car with some springs, but I have been trying to locate pics of a few setups to compare. The three springs I have looked at are:


Eibach Sportline
RS-R Super Down
Tein S. Tech


It looks like the Eibach gets the lowest, but how do they compare in ride quality and whatnot to the Tein or RS-R? All are roughly the same cost, so I would appreciate any and all feedback! I have decided to stay away from coilovers since I have these shocks that were free and in good shape. Coil overs could always come at a later time. This is my hobby car and doesn't see any track time, just some nice street time and some mountain fun.

On my '90 hatch I had some kyb gr2 shocks with tanabe gf210 springs.
The drop was a good 2.25" from stock. They rode really well. I liked them.

Replaced with coilovers now though.

I will look into the Tanabe springs as well! Totally forgot about them. I am looking for a spring that will ride nicely, but still be firm enough to have some fun.

I had tein s techs on stock shocks and I really liked them they were smooth but handled pretty well. I have sportlines on gr2s right now on my s14 and I like them too but setup is alot stiffer than the tein setup I had but they were on stock shocks. I was actually suprised how well the gr2 and sportline setup handled

You may not agree with me, but i recently bought and installed a set of Megan racing lowering springs. I got about a 1.5" drop so nothing crazy but i am honestly very impressed. The ride quality has remained the same but when driving over bumps or holes i can notice they are much stiffer. Cornering is great and the whole car is very solid. I got the springs for $130 so for now I'm pretty happy. And mind you I'm still on my blown stock shocks. I'm going to post a review on these in the near future

I got a set of tanabe df210 springs that go lower then the gf210. Low miles, pm me if interested. But from the 3 you listed, alot of people use and like the eibach.

Would anyone be able to post some pics of their springs setup in this thread? Again, something I searched for but to weed through the search takes a long time and I only found a picture or two of guys on Tein and Megan Racing. Any pics of Tanabe, RS-R, or Eibach would be ideal!

Dropped the car about 2.25 inches. Firm yet streetable, I would recommend adjustable suspension arms for a proper alignment, unless you enjoy buying tires often.

If I had a S14, I would possibly go for those since I like the drop! Anyone using the Tanabe GF210 on a S13? I would assume due to spring rate that this would be a popular choice...

I currenty have a KYB AGX on Teins S line with 16" rims on 225/55/16 on my street S13. The ride is very comfortable and they do give me a good drop (I will provide pictures later). Personally I think the S line is a bit "too soft" for my taste. I took the the car in the canyon and I feel more body roll than what I had hoped for. Mind you , I do not have any suspension mod besides the springs and shocks on this car.

In the coming weeks, I will throw in a thicker rear sway bars and adjustabe tension and control arms in the front to increase my camber to see how it would feel like and report my findings here. I am predicting a better turn in, less body roll and less understeer. Cross my fingers and let's see.

It would be cool if you can also list your tire/wheel sizing to put the drop in perspective. ATL! What is your car sitting on? Is that 16s? Mahalo!

I will bet that the sway bars make a huge difference on this chassis. Just by driving the car for the past few days I have noticed how much potential this car has to be a truly great handling car.

I have looked at the Espelir springs as well for a nice drop that is driveable, and from the looks of it that is the best of both worlds spring. The spring rates are progressive and run similar to the Tanabe GF210, but with a lower overall drop. Probably will be perfect with my wheels that I want to run.

I just found a set of Espelir Springs for sale on the forum marketplace. I am hoping that this guy answers his PM soon, it would be nice to throw some springs on and get rid of the SUV look haha
