ok so yesterday i bought my first 240sx (1990) the guy who sold it to me said that the only problem was the differential, he also told me that a mechanic came n look at it and found broken peices in the diff. when i drove it home n as soon i hit about 25-35mph i hear a really loud grinding noise coming from the back, but when i release my foot off the gas pedal it stops n when i give it gas it starts again n so on.. my question is idk what kind or type of differential i have so i can replace it.. can anyone tell me how i can find out? (heres a pic of it)http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/uu113/OG1R/P__6AE9.jpg

Looks like a stock diff to me. A member is selling one for 25 dollars right now in the for sale section.

Drop the diff, pop the cover off, and take a look. It should be pretty easy to figure out after that.

Was it a grinding noise or a humming noise? But yeah, the only way to tell is to drop the diff and pull the cover. It's probably either broken teeth, bad bearings or no fluid.

ABS vs. Non-ABS is something to keep in mind if you buy the whole shibang. The driveshaft lengths are different.
