View Full Version : Carbon Fiber Body Kit and Fenders (S13)

Chosen_1

Does anyone know of any carbon fiber body kits or fenders made for the classic S13 240sx? I know carbon creations made one, front and rear bumper, side skirts. But I can't find that one any more. Also if anyone knows where one can have carbon fiber fenders made or people who make them that'd be awesome.

lolz...um for the fenders you could just wrap yours in carbon fiber material and resin them so they stay all shiney and stuff.lol

Why is it again that you want carbon fiber? I could only assume, with no other information, that your s13 has been transformed into a $300,000 exotic converted to mid engine with a quadruple turbo v12

1. no 240sx will ever be a classic
2. putting carbon fiber that low on a car is pretty much a waste of money
3. you didn't search

Glad your almighty opinion is stone... a few more years, and mine will be registered and tagged as a "classic". That's right, car "younger than me". That means no more inspections and cheaper insurance.

and before you get your feelings hurt, I also own a 48 and a 51 Chevy pickup... I know what "classics" are, even if this OP and the state of Louisiana don't.

It all comes down to execution.

I can use just about any aero as an example. Throw on full Kouki 180sx aero on an S13 and rattle can the entire car. It'll look like shit.

That S13 looks amazing simply because the rest of the car flows with the aero.

Those other S13's with the same kit that were fully painted the same color. Looked so F&F 2001.

If you want to pull down some chicks, then you need something like this! I'm not a huge fan of carbon, but I do like to work with it. I've been wanting to get some of this in to play with.... some of these new weaves are pretty baller and give a nice solution over the standard age old 2x2 twill weave:

I also find it funny that most people don't realize that for most applications, carbon really isn't that much lighter than standard FRP. The only time you really start to see a difference is in things like F1, where every ounce counts. Or, in aerospace, where you've got so much damn material EVERYWHERE that it just adds up.

I'm with Mr. Broadfield above. If you're going to do carbon, man up and get some funky patterns. We all know you're in it just to be baller anyway, might as well go all out.

No, you're not even close to being remotely right in this thought.

Carbon fiber itself, when made with a resin and no backing material, IE FRP, is way more light than your standard FRP.

So, with your thought you're saying an F1 car made of FRP would come close to meeting the weight of an F1 car made of carbon fiber? Go pound sand.

yeah carbon by itself is super duper light, but how much is there thats plain carbon, not much right? so in this application getting an FRP hood would probably be really close weight to FRP/Carbon Hood. You can make FRP light but it wouldnt be close to structural strenght as Carbon.

MadScientist

Dry carbon is where its at.

Dry is a term used to describe that the part is made from a Pre-Preg lay-up on a, non gel coated base mold. Resin is still used but the control ratio is as close to 30/70 as possable. Costly process and materials.

Wet is dry cloth layed into a gel-coated base mold and Hand Layed... basic joe shmoe style. No Control of material saturation or uniform resin flow. Cheep fast process.

An F1 car using the same lay-up technique, equal weight cloth, the same mold, and the same resin but made of glass as opposed to carbon would weigh exactly the same. Would it be as strong? No. Which is my point.

The s13 is a unibody car. The fenders, hood, doors, and trunk aren't structural. You could make all of these pieces out of FRP at the exact same weight as carbon. Will they be as stiff or strong? No. Do you need them to be? No.

Unless you're going to build a one off car with a brand new frame, with nothing but the profile of an s13, carbon isn't going to do much of anything but provide baller status.

Go pound sand.

First post on zilvia.... best of luck with your creations. Most s13 owners don't have money. Its a horrible market.

If I were a businessman, I'd make CF parts for Evo X, STI, Ferrari, Porsche. You can usually get away with charging more. 240sx owners won't pay $8000 for a front splitter, but a Ferrari owner thinks he's getting a major deal.

Very few people still build good, clean cars these days.

To build a decent car you need money and taste.

Many (most?) 240 owners lack both.
