I was trying to remove my stur tower bar, and I noticed one of the nuts not coming off right. I got the nut almost to the top but now it just keeps turning and sea-sawing up and down. Hence stipped+warped!! The threads on the nut are GONE for the most part.

Now I am stuck with a nut that wont come off. The only think that I could think of is to die grind the nut off. The con is that I dont want to damge my Cusco strut bar AND the bolt from my FLT-A2. It would be pretty risky..not a lot of room to work with.

Anyone have any ideas???

Can you get one of these in there?

Sounds like the pressed in stud may be rounded out tho.

Can I get some more details. The pic looks like some type of caliper deal but with some adjustability for it to do something.

More Help please!

ooops ...sorry. I was at autocross.

It's a nut splitter. It has a tip like a chisel that splits the nut when you tighten. I think they're pretty cheap.

Go to Sears!

I was stuck with the same problem!

Its called a damaged nut remover.

Works instantly!

Sears??? Great! I hope they have it. I was gonna have to either buy from EBay or some indutrial supplier for the Nut Splitter thingy. Well I hope they have it at my nearest Sears!!

Anyone else have ideas?

Four, how much did it cost you for that part?

Four, I just saw the nut remover at Sears.com
I think you have the wrong idea. The threads on the NUT are shot. I am not having probelms with the outer-part of the nut. I could still grab onto the nut with a socket wrench. The problem lies within the threads of the nut itself.

you mean you CROSSTHREADED the nut on the bolt?

if so you are screwed. you'll need either a new bolt off the upper plate or a new upper plate from JIC.

dont remove the nut till you get the new one or you'll have one bolt holding it up.

Yea the nut is screwed. As far as the bolt...there might still be some hope. I still see threads where the nut is sea-sawing. There maybe no thread at mid top of the bolt though. I will call JIC only after I somehow take the nut off and assess the damage.

Luckily, S14 uses 3 nut/bolt pattern for its each front struts. I think should be safe with only 2 screwed down on that one side.

I just need something to take the nut off. I think I will try that nut splitter. Anyone please shoot my some ideas if you got any.

YES! that was also another possibility...without going to far as to a die grinder!

I guess I will try to find that nut splitter tool and give it a shot.

BTW: will the Dremel have enough power to cut through the nut though?

Damn, just get a new upper pillow mount..dont even try using the damaged ones. you'll end up being sorry later on...

they're not all that expensive, i think you can get them on ebay for $150 for the pair wether it be cusco, JIC, or HKS branded

Before I drop $150 or so on a new upper mount...I think I would feel comfortable trying to take the nut off first and see whats left of the bolt. Taking the nut off would only run $10-$15 so its worth a shot.
