Do the base model and SE S14s use the same shocks/struts? SE has sway bars and base doesn't, right? What are the differences in their suspensions? Thanks.

I dunno shit, but I think the Coupe has Front Sway... and on the SE/LE it has both and the front is bigger. It feels like the shocks are different too, because my car has a pretty rough ride, all of the reviews I've read cited that the SE has a rough ride, and the coupe is fine.

A few differences are. ..... SE gets fog lights, 5 lugs, white face gauges, Rear sway bar. All I can think of off the top !

Front sway is bigger? Does that mean the car still likes to understeer? Anyway you seem to be right about base having only the front sway bar and SE having both. That's what this image (http://www.socal240sx.org/faq/1998.html) says anyway, but it's not very specific at all.
I'm asking because I was offered SE suspensions plus lowering springs (don't know what brand yet) for my base 1998 240SX for $300 installed. Does that sound like a good deal to you guys?

Ummm yea. it does...
And Kid Zelda... I don't think those are suspension components =P
$300 seems like a good deal... maybe a little too good... but if it's someone that upgraded to lowering springs and yet bigger bars with some new shocks... I'd buy it! Find the mileage!!

All right cool, now two people have told me it's a good deal and no one has said it isn't. I'll probably go for it then. Thanks for the info.
Here's the 2nd question: Would SE shocks/struts break quickly with lowering springs? Or does that only happen to the base model?

Isn't the difference between base and SE shocks a small difference in the piston size?? Depending on the lowering springs, I doubt any stock shocks would handle well.... who knows though, it might be worth it.
The swaybars I know about though. The base, SE, and LE all seem to have the same front swaybar, while the base doesn't come with a rear swaybar at all.

That sounds like a good starting point, but only if it comes w/ the rear sway. The way I see it, priced separatly, you can get new aftermarket non-adj. shocks for about $300, springs (depending on quality) for a bit over $200, and a beefier rear sway for ??$200??. Plus installation (although doing it yourself is an easy, cheap, educational option;))
Used shocks are used (IMHO, s14 susp. holds up *okay* but I don't think I'd purchase a used one) and you will likely later want to upgrade the whole bit... but if it's in decent shape (no ripped dust covers, no leaks) and includes the rear sway it doesn't seem like a bad deal.
