Hi, i need some opinions on which car to get. I actually wanted to get a 240SX, but I can't find any for sale! And if they are, they're either asking for too much or they're in real bad shape. So i've decided to look elsewhere.

So its either between this 1987 Mazda RX-7 (http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=140430980&dealer_id=&car_year=1987&make=MAZDA&distance=100&max_price=4000&model=RX7&end_year=2004&advcd_on=n&min_price=&address=30087&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1986&color=&cardist=74) The seller told me that he would sell it for $2700

OR this 1987 Toyota Supra (http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=143288462&dealer_id=&car_year=1987&make=TOYOTA&distance=100&max_price=3000&model=SUPRA&end_year=2004&advcd_on=n&min_price=&address=30087&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1986&color=&cardist=4)

If i got either one, I'd try to get maybe 450hp+. I'd do that with the supra by just using the 7MGTE, no engine swap, and use the 13b in the FC3S. Also, I'd want to drift.

So, out of your opinion, what do you think is the better car and would be better suited to my goals. Thanks for the opinions!

the rx7 looks better then again, won't be as reliable as the supra.

Out of THOSE two cars, I'd pick the Supra. It just seems to be in better shape at 100k miles than that FC would be at 160-someK (unless it was rebuilt, but there is no mention of it in the ad). If both cars were in equal condition, I'd choose the FC hands down. For spirited driving, it seems like the better (not as heavy) choice. And yes, I have driven both, I like the FC more.

get the fc, it looks alot better and if the engine craps out you can put in a new miata engine in there and turbocharge it.

Waaaaa?! I'd get the TII FC of course. No contest there. I'd prolly even pick an NA FC over the supra.

I'd choose the RX7. My friend had Supra and it was a nice car, especially for it's time but it was too heavy for me (yet very solid) and wouldn't be my choice for a car. I'd rather have a lighter car.

Yea I was kinda leaning toward the seven, but then i started reading up on it and how it has some electrical problems. Like people's car wouldn't start and some annoying problems happening. Only thing i've heard about the supra is BHG. I dunno if i'm ready for a seven yet, i'm still in high school.

for drifting take the FC, the supra is a boat, a fast boat, but a boat.

Plus isnt there a problem with those cars, forget what but I used to know when I was looking for what car I wanted to buy. A few days of searching and lurking on supra and rx7 forums and sites will help with your decision.

450HP is a high number to aim for, I'd chose on the chasis and its condition then build on that.

FC has lots of possibilities if the engine craps out, as said before Miata engines (I got a ride in turbo miata  ), or V8, SR has been done, and of course any other rotary engine.

Supra will do best with what its got, or a 2jz if you wana do all that.

Yup, i've been looking on rx-7 and supra forums. And yeah i guess 450hp was pretty high! So maybe just around 300hp.

why would you want to get 300hp??? just to say you have it?

MKIII supra's are notorious for having bad head gaskets.

For raw horespower and straight line speed, go with the supra.

However, for the better "all around car", i'd say go with the rx7

Are Miata engines "easy" or "bolt on" into the FC's without major modifications? I've never heard of that before...but they are both mazda engines.

5.7 V-8 FC but your not going to do it so. Just get the one you like the best. Both have engine issues. both are high miles, especially important on the 7. Both have a expensive upkeep investment involved. Which one makes you want to get in and Drive? That's your winner. Really though, I would say wait for a 240:D

MkIII..........Celica!!! :D :D :D

Extremly reliable, bullet proof motor, not much after market though which is sad

My GF has a MK3 Supra... I love that car. it handles great... Seriously, with blown shocks, I did an auto-x event with it and it was a blast around the course. A bit heavy and soft (targa version) but so much fun to drive. Smooth & torquy (is that even a word??) i6, gotta love that.

I also did a 1/4 mile run with it. with a simple 2.5 mandrel bent cat-back and boost set at 10psi, I managed a [email protected] on my second run.

Sure FC is nice, but if you retork the head to proper specs, you'll have a much more reliable car in your hands.

Agreed... the FC is more sports car than any supra ever was. I'd definitely take the FC; supras are heavy and ugly. :o

i would get the fc just cuz i love the fc. the fc is a better rounded sports car but its notoriously unreliable. expect to spend 1/3 of your time driving it and 2/3 of your time fixing it. if you're not one to do repairs on your own get ready to dump lots of money into it. the supra is more reliable but as someone else mentioned, its heavy and not a real cornering machine.

if i were you, i'd forget them both and find a 240sx. or maybe a miata? sure, its girly. but its light, small, rwd, corners well and can really push it on the straights with a turbo or something. or a mr2? my 2 cents.

nothing sexier than a clean old fc, just keep the motor in good shape and don't rag it. that car has feelings and it will turn around and bend you over.

"Nothing sexier than a clean old FC"?
Whoa. Gotta disagree with ya there. Now I LOVE FC's, they're light, quick, agile, and I've seen some crazy 800+ HP ones...
powerful? Yes.
Fast? Yes.
Good Drifter? Oh hell yes.
Sexy? Umm... no. Badass car, yes, but sexy no way in hell.

To be back on topic:
Which do you want? A straightline land rocket (heavier GT car)? or a more maneauverable sports car? You're on opposite ends of the performance spectrum. If you'll spend more time at the 1/4 mile, get the supra. If you think you'll drift/AutoX, go FC. Each car is good in it's natural enviornment.

true, stock they're not all that impressive. but throw on the sleepy eyes, some mesh/5spoke dish, single muff conversion and some nice suspension and you're in business

I guess i'm gonna go with the FC then. I really wanted a S13 but there is none out there around me that are in good shape or the seller is asking for way too much. My friend use to have an NA FC until he totaled it by losing it around a corner. It was cool, but I never got to drive it. So soon I guess i'll have my own to drive, but being turbo.

But if anyone knows about a S13 selling around the Atlanta area for under $3000, please inform me! I told the seller of the FC that i would need another month to get some more money. Thanks guys for helping me make a decision!

Also, what other rwd cars under $3000 should i put into consideration?

*EDIT* I just tried looking for an AE86 on autotrader but i'm not AE86? before you go buy that fc3s, read this first:

FC3S Non Turbo http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/buy1.htm
FC3S Turbo http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/buy2.htm

should be very helpful. good luck. other rwd = mr2, miata.

I wonder how hard it would be to swap in a Renesis Rotary into the FC?

we just swapped an JDM FD into an FC...custom motor mounts, cross brace, tranny mount, radiator mount..extending some things to reach the opposite side of the car..

i'm sure it would be possible..:)
