i have an extra t25 from an extra sr20 longblock that i was told only has 10,000 miles on it. How am i to know if the turbo is still good. Its not on the car and i was looking at it and checked for shaft play and there was none but even though i was told that you shouldnt, i tried to spin it. and it didnt really spin at all. i dont know if that it bad, but i was told that it could be a good thing but i dont know. thanks for you help.

Who the hell told ya not to spin the turbo? Two things are checked for when buying a turbo, shaft play (side to side) and how free it spins. You want very little resistance in spinning, and it should spin for a while. It's troublesome to know that yours barely spins, and I'd take it apart to see what the problem is.

see that is what i thought. and when i got my first sr20 i spun it and it spinned freely. and then when i got my second one i did it to that one and my friend was like what the hell are you doing? you not suppose to do that. he said that doing that could mess up the balance of the turbo. does anyone have a website or facts to back it up.. not that i dont trust yall but something that i can go SEE!!! thanks, joel

mess up the balance of the turbo? if turbo's spin at high RPM's then what hurts to spin it by hand for a quick sec.. your friend is:bs: ...
shaft play and free spin are the first things to check when buying a new turbo...

but check out www.240sx.org
check the FAQ section there.

this website is how to check out a ct26 turbo...
but a lot of the info should be the same...

hope this helps a little...

i have a good condition used turbocharger from my old car that still spins freely with no shaft play. Anyone think I could sell it for anything? I mean someone who wants a project or something could maybe use it

sorry..but your friend is a dumbass:D
thas almost like buying a used car and the sales man tellin u u cant test drive it. u have to have it delivered to your house. plus if it were that easy to through off the balance of the turbo that thing would explode under load.

jus rebuild it...its real simple to do...im in the process of rebuildin a T3
got a rebuild kit off Ebay for 75....check this dude "turbopimp" out
