i was wondering, how effective would the apex'i s-afc be for my car? i've been planning a tranny swap, and just regular stuff like pulleys and maybe a lsd. would there be a definite margin of difference between stock and the controller? thanks.

yes its worth. smooths out your cars powerband. probably wont make much HP but you will feel a difference.

while I mostly agree with Dousan, if your mod list is current, I think there's far better things to spend your hard earned cash on.
S-AFC is typically for people who have made some big changes to their fuel system, injectors, high flow pump, engine swap, bigger turbo, etc etc etc. A $300 computer seems excessive for the mods you list, I'd definitely put that $ towards something else if I were in your shoes.

I agree with Yoshi. On a stock-ish NA car, it won't do much, I'd save my money. I have an SAFC laying around somewhere that I never bothered to install for this same reason, my car is stock, so what's the point of tuning fuel curves? Sure, you can get 2-3HP in some places by leaning the curve out a bit, but you can get the same by advancing your timing a few degrees, which is free. SAFC would undoubtedly be a good mod for a turbo car though, especially if pushing higher boost.

Yoshi has it down, I'm going to get one soon, but only because of the motorswap. If I still had the KA, I wouldn't do it.

What's up guys... I know this is an old post, but for anyone who was wondering, my little bro has an SAFC on his '89 with the stock KA (yeah, yeah, I know) and, when combined with a new intake and exhaust, it completely changed the characteristics of the car. It released a lot of horsepower... When you put an intake and exhaust on your car, it only releases horsepower the the highest stock specifications; it doens't actually add horsepower. With these things, you're basically running better efficiency off of the stock ECU, yet with the SAFC, it alters the signal coming from the ECU to allow higher gains off of those add-ons. Try it! They have them on E-bay for a fairly good price now, and my bro's car now like to spin its rear-end out in turns while in second, third, and fourth (something it never used to do). Feels like a new car.
